MSC to PC - Day 1

Hi there, guys. I went through the Day 1 process on the 16th Nov which admittedly was quite nerve-wracking. Was anyone else on here on that Day 1? So take me feel a little bit more optimistic, I thought I’d ask how long it took everyone else to hear back? I’m now just waiting; it’s been around 5/6 days now excluding the weekend. How much more longer do you guys think I’ll have to wait? On the day of my assessment, there were only around 8 of us, so I’m assuming it won’t take long for them to mark and distribute results. Fingers crossed. ?
  2. Hi All, Firstly a huge thank you to all who are currently serving this Country, under any role that is currently within a police force, I truly admire what you represent. My joining this site is very recent, and a last port of call if I am completely honest. I have had to many knockbacks now over the years, but most recent is vetting. I am told as an external applicant that I have no right of appeal, & that section 6 of some type of act 1996 there is no reason to disclose the decision to myself. Added to this, I am informed that under no circumstances, in any capacity or post am I able to apply to this force again, I am stunned!. I have sought local assistance via my local MP, which at first looked promising etc, with the avenue of data protection, right of appeal, subject to access form etc.............. Sadly this concluded my MP informed me with the Chief Constable himself explaining via telephone, that the decision was final, that I am not of suitability in the role of constable and there was no right of appeal? Is there anyone out there, that can look at this ethically and explain to me where I go now. I am confused, as I currently work as a volunteer in an organisation that works from the same office as police. So I can pass a CRB but not vetting? Confused.......................? Appreciate any advice

    Met Borough Choices

Hi there, guys. I’ve somehow managed to pass my Day 1. It wasn’t an easy day to be honest, it’s a very nerve-racking day. But yeah, I’ve managed to get through it. I’m now at the stage where I have to choose boroughs. Any suggestions or advise will be vastly appreciated. This is what I have in mind: 1. KF - Newham 2. GD - Hackney 3. SX - Barnet 4. QK - Brent 5. EK - Camden 6. HT - Tower Hamlets Anyone at any of the above boroughs?

  6. Hello Everyone! I have just got an email telling me i've been invited to an assessment day with the Isle of Wight Police as a Special Constable. They've said that the assessment includes... - Verbal Logical Reasoning Test -Verbal Usage Test - Competency Based Interview (With Presentation) Now, the presentation has to be on 'what is the role of a special constable' and should last about 5 minutes. I have to prepare this before hand, there is no equipment available. How on earth would you guys structure this? What would you include, would you make it personal? I have 16 Days to prepare, I'm nervous already!

  10. Ever considered becoming a Special Constable? Can you give up 16 hours a month (4 hours per week) to help safeguard your community? Dyfed Powys Police is looking for enthusiastic people who have a special quality and are willing to volunteer their time to join the force as Special Constables in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Powys. Working as a Special Constable can be done alongside studying, other employment or in retirement. You can use your experience from jobs and life to provide a different perspective and way of looking at some of our policing challenges. You will receive the necessary and appropriate training to allow you work alongside full-time police officers. You will have the same powers as a police officer whilst on duty, and help provide a link between the police and local communities. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn, gain new experiences, work with others and give something to the community. An application pack and further information about the role is available on our website:- https://www.dyfed-powys.police.uk/en/join-the-police/special-constables/ To apply, please complete and return the Special Constable Application form prior to the deadline date. Deadline Date: Friday 6 January 2017
  11. The NPIA (National Policing Improvement Agency) has in January 2011 published revised guidance to Chief Constables about restricted occupations, i.e. those occupations held by potential Specials which may make them ineligible. There have been some significant changes and revisions from the last list (published and discussed at great length here) so I have closed that one and started a new topic. Occupations which are ineligible (but with some variations as described): Armed Forces personnelArmed forces reserve members (RN Reserve, RM Rserve, Territorial Army, RAAF) are eligible, but their reserve commitments take priority over police duties Traffic wardens, civil enforcement officers, and school crossing patrols Neighbourhood and street wardens, and other uniformed patrol wardens Some Highways Agency Traffic Officers (includes Welsh Assembly Traffic Officers)Those employed in an “on road” capacity are ineligible Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Members of Employer’s police forces and private constabularies Certain roles concerned with the administration of the law Magistrates Judges Justice’s clerks CPS employees SOCA (Serious and Organised Crime Agency) staff SOCA staff with immigration officer and/or revenue and custom officer powers are ineligible SOCA staff, including those designated with constable powers, are eligible subject to agreement by the Director General of SOCA and the Chief Officer of the force Members of Police AuthoritiesMay be considered for appointment as Special Constables in a different area to where they are a member of the police authority, with permission of the authority and at the discretion of the Chief Officer of the force Immigration Officers Occupations with client privilegeEligible but at discretion of the Chief Officer of the force, and where necessary, subject to approval of the employer Members of medical and health professionsEligible provided their local NHS Trust or Health Authority has no objections Occupations / interests where appointment as a Special Constable is at the discretion of the Chief Officer of the force: Holders of premises or personal licences, designated premises supervisors, and licencees of betting/gaming premises Bailiffs Warrant Officers Private Detectives Inquiry Agents Employees of Security Organisations Security Personnel, guards and door supervisorsPersons involved in the private security industry will be ineligible to become a Special Constable if their job involves the potential for them to use their position as a constable for their own advantage or that of their employer, e.g. contact with the public, patrolling/guarding buildings, etc. Civilian staff employed by police authorities (e.g. custody detention officers, front office staff) Members of the Fire ServiceNow eligible for appointment as Special Constables, subject to agreement between the Chief Officers of the police force and the relevant Fire Service. You can download the NPIA's full guidance here (PDF). For information on business interests please see this thread: http://www.policespecials.com/forum/index.php?/topic/104329-business-interests/

    Security Checks

I work for the Criminal Record Bureau, which carries out checks for people applying to work with unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults, for example taxi drivers, teachers and doctors, also recruitment checks for police officers and specials. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding, confusion and myths about the security checks, I am writing this just to clarify some facts. The majority of the checks are conducted in the same way, without going in to too much detail for obvious reasons, here is a brief breakdown of what happens: Local crime systems are scanned to check if you have come to the attention of the authorities in the past. These systems will show everything from speeding tickets to serious crimes committed, if for what ever reason your name is spelt differently on the form from on the systems then it will be sent back to your force for clarification causing some delay, same goes for your date of birth, address etc, remembers all the times you have given false details to the police this is where it will bite you. The check will also get passed to all forces you have lived in, for example if you have lived in London, Manchester and Liverpool it will get passed to all these forces who will do the same thing as this. Various other systems are checked including the voters roll to find out what people are living at your address, remember the myth of " if I don't write it down they wont find out " yes they will, again if someone is found that hasn't been declared then again its sent back for clarification causing, yes you guessed it more delay. Systems such as PNC are checked against you and the other people you have declared or have been found, to check what recordable offences you have on PNC, if for example you had committed an assault of which no further action was taken (NFA), we will still create the report and request the crime files to check exactly what happened, there was a case where some one had got arrested to BOP on closer inspection we found they had threatened people with knives!! If something is outdated on PNC, for example a caution that has been on longer for 5 years then it will we weeded off, if something if found on your family members then the same procedure applies of requesting crime files etc. If something is found on you or a third party all the information is collected and passed over to the decision makers (people who decide weather to disclose the information or not), it will go on a big pile this is where the delay is mainly, just to point out our CRB receives about 1,000 checks a week and has a backlog of about 13,000 checks, the decision makers are still working through files from March!! If nothing is found on you or anyone in your family then you will be sent out as a no trace from CRB and you will be passed over the force's special branch, I am not quite sure what happens here but most likely there will be contact with Mi5/Mi6 to check you're not a wanted terrorist etc, also if you or anyone in your family were born outside the UK then checks with Interpol will be made, again this is a stage that causes big delays. Special Branch usually take their time with this and cannot even be chased up for this part - not even by us in the CRB!! Hopefully this will be of help to some people, but again don't take this as Gospel, this is only a very brief outline of what can go on, there are of course many different scenarios which I won't go into here. Thanks PP
  13. West Yorkshire have updated their regulars recruitment page and although they won't be offering appointments until next year, a registration form is now available to be kept up to date on the recruitment situation. Knock yourselves out... http://www.wypjobs.co.uk/policeofficers/index.cfm
