    Photocopying warrant card?

I can't comment if it's frowned upon or not but I have been asked to do the exact same thing for a friend in the past. I wrote an accompanying letter stating I was a Special Constable and that I would provide evidence of the fact if required at an embassy or similar. I was not prepared to actually send a copy of the warrant card itself...but that's just the way I preferred to do it. As it happens the visa was refused for other reasons.

    Advice on re-joining please!

Thanks for that. When I did cancel the interview I sent an email explaining my reasons (vaguely) and apologised. I didn't receive any reply which was a bit off-putting though.
  3. Hi all, I did put this on the Force Specific page but I haven't had many replies so I'm throwing this out to the masses so to speak: Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice on maybe re-joining my local force but I have a bit of a story. I actually joined as a Special about 2 years ago but I only lasted about 12 months due to having a rough time with work. As soon as I passed training I was made redundant which hit me hard and when I did get a job I was sent to various places away from home which meant it was just not possible to carry out any duties so I handed in my notice. I was not in a good place at the time so I feel it was a good decision although I didn't want to leave after the hard work of getting there. About 4 months later (earlier this year) I approached one of my superiors in the Specials and asked if it was possible to return as I was slowly getting back to a stable life. To my delight I was told it was possible and just needed an interview but I stupidly had a change of heart after listening to some bad advice on how the Police were at an all time low of morale and it was a bad time to be a part of it. To that end I cancelled the interview. Now I feel confident again about my situation and have a stable life again I am really regretting my past decisions and I am wondering if it would still be possible to return after a year. I'm sure I can contact someone to find out but I actually feel slightly embarrassed about the way I have wasted the forces time including the person who offered me a second chance earlier in the year. I am hoping some of you can give me their opinion if they think I should bother trying or have I burnt my bridges too much. Brutal honesty is appreciated please. Thanks.

Revealed: government plans for police privatisation

I wonder when the Government will be up for tender to the private sector.
  6. Sorry if you think I have no business posting on the PSNI page but I have served two tours of N. Ireland one being 2 years long and I find the idea of this "tribute" absolutely disgraceful. I find it incredible that this was even considered and unless things have drastically changed in the last decade I'm sure this will not help to contribute towards any sustained peace but infuriate certain groups.......in a nutshell, it's another site for a public disorder meeting. Edit: I see it is an existing statue and I should have read the article in more detail but my reaction still stands.

    Resisting Arrest

This is an interesting topic and one that has answered a long running question I've had, thanks (remember...."Obstruction").

    Special Constable and Facebook

I don't usually post on here but I thought this was an important addition to this thread: I have a Facebook page and it is locked down as much as I can so the only people that "see" me, message me or look through my stuff are my friends and friends only so I'm invisible to the outside world so to speak. A couple of months ago I had a private message come through from someone who knew me when I was younger. I asked how he found me and he simply said "I entered your name and your's was the first one to come up". So basically after checking my "security" was still as it should be I realised that Facebook is totally unsecure regardless of what options they have set up. As a result I don't have any personal information on it whatsoever or pictures that would reveal anything on my current status.......so beware!!
  9. I'm sure you can download it from the Australian Defence Force site. Edit: Here it is... http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/fitness/techniques/
  10. A few of my friends know, they call me Slater who was the b*****d copper from Only Fools and Horses

    Introduction

Hi Martin, Like Dan said it's impossible to say how long the process can take. My own application was very quick, a matter of months but others such as Dan have waited up to a year. There are so many factors that can delay the process and the end of it is such a long way off that I wouldn't worry too much about it right now. Just concentrate fully on each step as you come to it and take the advice and help given in the recruitment part of this site. If you have any questions then feel free to ask any of us and we will do our best to help you along. Good luck. Ian.

    Police could purchase water cannon

I have been on a baseline in N.I alongside the RUC (as it was then) about 9 years ago. The crowd was huge (in the hundreds) and I admit that it was frightening and we were hit with I.O.D's, fireworks, rocks and petrol bombs. Quite a few people were injured and to be honest I was quite scared. After about 3-4 hours of this the water cannon was bought in (when we were in a position for it to be effective) and guess what....it worked. There were a few "brave" ones that tried to hide behind their own little shields such as metal bins but they were just forced back by the water. Within 20-30 minutes the whole crowd were dispersed and that was the end of it. No members of the public were hurt, just very wet and feeling sorry for themselves. I would say it's a fantastic piece of equipment and I'm so glad they get used.

    Patrolstore

I tried to purchase something today but it wouldn't go through for some reason, must be a problem somewhere.
