Police officer safety debate in Parliament

Sierraoscar54 Whilst I can appreciate that SC WS95 (PY) may not have as much experience as some, all opinions are valid even if others disagree with them. That's really what a forum is about. If we all agreed on everything all the time, it would all be more than a little pointless WS95's post is perfectly worthy of note as that's their experience (albeit, so far), opinions change over time of course, and therefore WS95 may one day be as cynical as the rest of us

BBC: Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe to retire

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe is to retire after five years as the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, the force has announced. Sir Bernard, who was appointed to the role in September 2011, will remain in post until February to allow for his successor to be appointed. During his time in charge, he oversaw policing of the London riots and the Olympic Games. Sir Bernard said he believed it was "the right time to move on". He said he had "loved my time in the role" but it was "a good chance to make this change now" after the appointments of a new London mayor and home secretary. "It also allows a decent amount of time to select my successor," he said. According to the Met, crime has fallen by around 18% during the time Sir Bernard has been in post. He led the police response after the London riots in 2011 and the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in 2013. However, he has also faced controversy including questions about the Met's handling of Operation Midland, its inquiry into allegations of historical abuse involving high profile public figures. A 16-month investigation was launched after claims boys were sexually abused more than 30 years ago, but it closed in March without a single arrest. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-37503648

Woman, young lads and possibly cigarettes?

Perhaps what you actually meant came across badly in text form. It sounded like you were suggesting that you'd just go steaming in and "reminding" the woman about the licensing act Now you've explained it a little more, it makes more sense.

Woman, young lads and possibly cigarettes?

And if she says, "He's my son, he's 16 and it's got nothing to do with you"? It's a bit of a stretch to jump from buying a packet of cigarettes to alcohol. You've got absolutely no evidence of the latter for a start, so I think you'd start off on shaky ground and it would be down hill from there.

Woman, young lads and possibly cigarettes?

No offences. Carry on with whatever else it was you were doing The Children and Young Persons (Sale of Tobacco etc) Order 2007 deals only with the sale of tobacco products & e-cigarettes to persons under the age of 18 and does not make illegal the proxy sale of (or the giving of tobacco products or e-cigarettes) as a gift to persons that are under 18. It is also not illegal for persons over 16, but under 18 to have such items in their possession. So you'd have no grounds to do anything.

    Tricky recruitment question!

I thought the rule was that you could only attend SEARCH once (in a 6 month period). Bearing in mind that at the application stage, you might not even make it as far as interview. So to say that you can only apply to a single force at a time would not really be in the spirit of the rules.
