Sussex do have RPU specials and once you have your basic permit you can drive the marked vehicles but you will not be able to use the emergency equipment, as far as I am aware you can't drive the plain vehicles either.

Attachments to specialist units such as RPU are taken once you have independent patrol and I think you have to pass an interview, but don't quote me on that.

We do indeed have a small team of SC's who are within RPU at all three of our bases.

They're able to drive all the marked vehicles under the terms of a basic driving authorisation, but without use of blues & twos whilst the vehicle is in motion.

RPU do also have a couple of low powered general purpose vehicles on the fleet - used by the Casualty reduction teams - if the SC has their "Amber" response permit, they are able to drive these in accordance with their permit.

RPU SC's are required to undertake a minimum of 24 hours of duty per month and to work through an RPU learner package in their first year on the unit. This is to reflect the additional training and development that is invested into them as a core part of the role.

Entry to the RPU team requires that the SC has attained independent patrol and is consistently performing the minimum duty commitment in their current role (16 hours per month). They must also be up to date with the mandatory training - personal safety and first-aid. Vacancies are posted on the force intranet site, and successful applications are invited to attend a competency based interview.

The entry requirements and application process for RPU is common to all the specialist roles be it CID, Licensing, RPU or Wildlife Crime.

Roberts5671, would you be kind enough to PM me?

Am from the Kent SC RPU team and have a couple of questions - have tried to send you a PM but it wouldn't receive your end.

Thanks

OH
