To answer your question: Just recently we had a MOD PC come in with a Drunk Driver. He was requested to stop it by our control room as we had no other units at the time.

How difficult is it to speak to someone from their recruitment department? I've been trying for days, does anyone have any special numbers?

Hi all, I have just returned from their 2 day assessment down in Essex. MDP are a civil force, and as such have the same arrest procedure (PACE) as any other home office force.
In 2001 they were given extra powers to be able to arrest anyway in the UK- under direction from Home office force within that area.
They are becoming a very valuable armed force for the UK. The secretary of defence is looking at proposals to include the force in a special UK wide anti-terrorist response force.

The easiest way to contact the force is to dial 118500, then ask for 'Ministry if Defence Police' in Wethersfield, Essex. You'll be offered 2 numbers, 1.Recruitment, 2. Station.

Pick the 1st one, so long as its between 9am-5.15pm they should answer.

The problem with drink driving on base is that the offence is under the road traffic act and therefore on public roads only. Most MOD land/property is not open to the public. Still military training land is often open to the public and they can deal with offences there. Also under mutual aid they can assist Home Office forces.

As for MOD recruitment try an email.

How did your assessment go? I hope it went well!! What do you actually do there? I saw somewhere you have to do a firearms test? What does that include?

Whilst the Land is open to the public to walk their dogs etc, the roads are not open to them to drive on.

I'm trying to keep confident- I should get my results in the next week! Centrex centre and Firearms. The physical we passed on the 1st day- and were told such. First day we had a briefing, and got to know each other a bit, then we were split into groups, some of us had the physical, others the firearms.

The firearms assessment involved a tour of the gun centre area, ranges and equipment store. Then there was around 15 of us sat in a semi-circle whilst a Sergeant showed us in detail the new MP7's. We could not fire them as the new range is been fitted for the new weapons. They are slowly changing to MP7.

So all we had to do was handle the weapon, open a few bits on it, cock it and release the firing spring. We loaded magazines (empty)! and had to stand in a firing stance, cock and fire the weapon (not live), then kneel and do the same, and lastly prone, again doing the same.

It was all good fun.

Well wishing you the best of luck mate! Stay positive!

So other then the firearms, the rest of the assessment is run in the centrex format? Roles plays etc?

MDP can and do stick peopleomn at MoD establishments.
On Coppers once a corporal was stuck on ( £ 40.00 + 3 points ) by MDP for speeding ( 45 in a 30 mph )
I had a similar thing at an RAF base when the RAFP stopped me on the main drag doing 25 in a 15 mph on a Sunday with a speed gun.
They could only ban me for 2 weeks from the base for driving with excess speed, allthough i did have to prioduce my docs with their own version of a HORT1.

Due to the work i was doing i managed to persuade the Flt Lt OIC that a 2 week ban would have a slightly detrimental affect on the Royal Flight as i was one of only 2 people with flight deck access ) accompanied as allways by RAFP). Being a SC slightly helped ( not an excuse ) there as that"s one of the reasons i had access on security grounds having been vetted etc.
In essence i got reported and it was dealt with by way of a verbal warning.

Also got ticketed for parking on the grass once when the main car park was full.

Hi, I got my results about 2 weeks later and I passed with an overall of 70%!!! Pass mark is 60% overall.

About overtime, this was taken from MDP www.Policeuk.com, and the officer is talking about Aldermaston station. "But as i said its the overtime that makes the MDP well paid. Most top rate cops dont take home less then £40k a year and I generally net a few extra hundred a month on overtime". - this was from a probationer of a few months in. Sounds good!

Hi Guys,
Can anyone direct me toward a map of the most common areas of work for MOD police?
I'm considering applying, and am aware that I should be willing to work anywhere in the country, just wondering where the nearest and furthest work place from my current home is.

Thanks
Rich

on official MOD police site there is a map of all "areas" .
Obviously does not go into specific detail but will help you get an idea.

I gather, though I may be wrong, that the bulk of probationers got to AWE.

Hi, below is a list of all stations operated by the MDP, its a long list- and a few have merged or changed in the last year, but on the whole its right. Most stations have at least 2 MDP officers, some such as AWE have 300+ officers! Then theres also Operartional Support Unit, Marine Unit, Special Escort group, and Fraud squad.
As Muncton said most probationers go to AWE Aldermaston/Burghfield for their first 2/3 years.
