"Build on what your into"

I have recently sent an email (force wide) regarding the MILLENNIUM VOLUNTEERS AWARD (Has anyone received it? The system is always hassle!). Basically the award is easy to achieve.. it is all about getting recognition for the work you do.. in our case... as a volunteer police officers!
"Millennium Volunteers (MVs) are young people who give up their free time to help their local communities. MV allows young people to build on their interests, to develop themselves and make a difference to their community at the same time."
After 100 hours of volunteering, MVs will be presented with an Award signed by the Minister for Skills and Vocational Education. However the ultimate aim is to reach the 200 hours target, when MVs will receive an Award of Excellence signed by the Secretary of State. Over 40,000 MVs have received an Award of Excellence so far!
MV can also back-date up to 50 hours of voluntary work.. so you can achieve the award in no time at all!
Through the course of their voluntary work, MVs will gain valuable skills and experience that they can make use of in the workplace, such as team-working, decision making and communication. Having MV on your CV is something that really makes employers and Universities sit up and take notice.
Employers know that Millennium Volunteers are people with motivation, dedication and the ability to work hard.
Genaro Castado - HMV
"HMV is delighted to endorse the Millennium Volunteers initiative. It will be attractive to young people because it will provide opportunities to have fun, make new friends, learn new skills, as well as making a real difference to the local communities in which they live. HMV says get MV on your CV".
David Mansfield - Chief Executive, Capital Radio
"Experience is so important yet difficult to accumulate at an early age. At Capital, many of our 700 people begin their careers at one of our radio stations throughout the country.
Community involvement is an extremely important part of our culture and Millennium Volunteers would no doubt provide valuable experience. We will ensure we look out for more people who have taken the initiative to become part of this important project."
Lucy Mason - Head of Community Affairs, Barclays Bank
"Barclays has been a long-standing supporter of volunteering by young people, and we know how beneficial the effects can be both to the volunteers and to their communities. The communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills gained by young volunteers are a great asset to them in their future lives, and will be of significant importance when they talk to future employers.
We strongly recommend the MV programme to all young people - we hope they will seize the opportunity to make a real difference to the community and develop their own employability at the same time."
