Hint: the Highways Agency are responding to something they have specific powers to deal with, on restricted roads, are fully trained and are a government agency. No direct offence intended, but you meet none of these criteria.

Just to clarify, are you hoping to benefit from the exemptions available to vehicles being used for fire brigade purposes?

Plus we are a properly trained organisation, recognised by the police as we assist them, not some no mark fly by night cowboy unit. :aok:

That is exactly why I used the phrase "recognised emergency service" and not "police, fire & ambo". I would include in this description organisations such as St. John Ambo, Coastguard, RNLI, Mountain rescue, search & rescue and a fair few others that I can't think of at the moment I should think.:aok:

Psst, British Red Cross. :aok:

I'm not with the Highways Agency, but I'll take a shot at answering this, and I'm sure THM will come along and fill in any blanks that I may leave.

Highways Agency Traffic Officers are trained by police instructors when it comes to operating (in vehicles) on live carriageways. This would include training in such things as rolling blocks, vehicle positioning (fend off) etc.

The HATO's, which operate nationwide on the motorway network, probably between them deal with thousands of people an hour on Britains motorways. Putting themselves in danger every day, to help ordinary motorists. And they don't charge them extra for their services either.

Tell me Dave, what was the last thing that you did for your local society that you didn't charge for?

Whether they charge for thier services is no odds when compared to the potentially live changing service I offer, no comparison in HATOS' and Atraks duites, maybe you should let him speak for himselves, my training is more indepth and I can SIA conflict management, control and restrint, handcuffing, arrest procedures, statement taking, crime scene preservation (pending police arrival), EDI SECURITY DOG HANDLING, Major Incident Medical Management & Support, Blue light and fire evac etc.

You must be expecting some rough crowds at these out of control BBQ's... "Stand back, I haven't pricked the sausages!!!"

I can't help but think you're on a hiding to nothing on this one, hcps...

If you say so, its called offering value for money and ensuring all staff are trained to do what we state we can.

It's only value for money if it's a service that';s of use to the individual. Personally I couldn't give a monkey's if the person fighting my bin fire is SIA trained or has a flashy pair of handcuffs on his belt...

As long as any those things happen between 5pm and 5am right?

How many of those things can already be done for free by the police, fire and ambulance services? Yet you still feel the need to charge. Whereas HATO's do something you can't, and don't charge yet i'd say is more dangerous than 95% of the things you've listed. At the end of the day the only thing you offer that emergency services dont is private security to private companies or homeowners, if you want this as your job then stay on-site where there would be no need for any emergency lighting. If you want to branch out to fire-fighting, then it should be on the understanding you make at best speed, without emergency lighting and without breaking the RTA, whilst the local fire brigade also make.

And that's just with the dog! You should see what they're capable of once the Passat turns up. They can pressure wash your patio for you as well then.

I'm sorry but, PMSL. You're just a defendant in search of a trial.

Hmmm, five pages that have stemmed from someone wishing to know whether they could jump red lights in a fire vehicle with no blue lights. On the basis of the legality of what you propose to do, your legal team should be able to advise you accordingly. If you were stuck on for any offences I don't think that you would have a defence of 'well they said it was ok on PS.com'.

With regard to the level of training etc, hcps has not divulged what training he has had, and the ensuing argument about it is therefore a little pointless. Thanks to all who've contributed.
