Initial process
Once you have sent away your fully completed application form along with your doctors and optical report (may be later on in some cases) you will under go the initial paper sift, where applications whom meet the correct criteria will be put forward for the next stage.
Notification of papersift acceptance, with information on your invitation to the Day one event.
You will find all you need and can know about the day one and what it entails within your paperwork sent to you... detailing what is needed on the day, and what happens.
Assessment Day one (theres not a day two.. ? )
The day will consist of the following elements. (Attire: Smart casual, no denim or sportswear)
-Group Exercise and Written Exercise
At this stage you will be tested on the six competencies listed below, Both the group exercise and written exercise must be successfully complete prior to moving to the interview stage of the day.
-Critical Thinking Test
The success of your application depends on a range of information, including results from the Critical Thinking Test. The critical thinking test contains written, illustrated police-based senarios, but it is not a test of prior police knowlage. As a police officer you will have to make decisions in the community on a day-to-day basis, and thetest aims to test various aspectss of decision making. Failure of the CTT, candidates can no longer move forward with their current application and are strongly advised not to reapply within a 12 month period.
-Interview
During this interview you will be tested again against the 6 competencies, You will have to demonstrate your ability in each of the areas by providing relevant answers backed up with examples to evidence. A knowlage of the force and its objectives is paramount along with a realistic view of what you will be doing as a special.
-Fitness
A fitness standard test will be carried out, this is not a pass or fail exercise, but has been introduced to advise and prepare you for your time as a special constable. (currently not enforced)

Items needed on the day : Fitness Kit, Photographic ID, Enclosed medical questionaire.
You will then hear within a period of 1 - 4 weeks if you have been successful at this stage, Reference checks will then be made with your employer and your two personal referees, After this has gone through you will arrange a medical date with the occupational health.
Medical
Dont worry guys, theres no nasty "cough and drop"
Your hearing and eyesight will be tested.
Lung capacity test.
Weighed and height taken.
Urine sample to check for diabetes etc.
Hair sample ( drug test) - around 200 strands of hair from your scalp, from two or three areas.
Blood pressure, heart and chest checked.
Once you have filled in a few health and safety at work forms.. you will be on your way "fit for work" if you pass everything! The drug testing takes up to a week, once you hear back from that its all done.
You will then recieve a letter informing you to get a photograph taken at force HQ for your ID warrant card.. and to arrange an appointment at stores to get all your goodies fitted and tried on.
You will recieve your first training date along with some disclosure forms to sign and your done! More details will come in all of your own personal letters.
(Dont know where vetting comes into this as i didnt ask or kno anything about it!)
