Quick one just a what if?
Say some one joined SJA has passed their test in the last few months say 6 but has either ROSPA gold/silver or IAM would they have a chance in hell of driving an SJA vehicle?

Weird that you are not already when i was in the running for taking over a cadet unit i was told it came with with a grade 5 rank (if thats the one above the lowest?)
I doubt SJA will get rid TBH as their are far to many TIGERs that would not be happy give said rank up!
It comes with grade 6 officer status, I did ask in my own sneaky way, when I was going to be promoted to my Area Staff Officer for Cadets and she didnt know. To be honest am not bothered if I get bird poop (it is a stronger word as you properly know put am not allowed to swear on the forum
Though officer status would be nice, am even thinking off going for divisional officer (cadets) (grade 5 status) but am not sure yet.
I dont think they will get rid of ranks, I think some people are too senior for the own head and think they are the best thing since slice bread. I know a few, even one doesnt like me (dont know how that could happen

have they held a licence for the appropriate class of vehicle for 2 years ?
is there an operational requirement for them to drive ?
are they able to satisfactorily complete the appropriate driving assessments (a-b, operational none- emergency, emergency , emergency +s.19)?
if you cannot fulfill all three criteria then no there isn't just as it;s the case in many cotrporate and other emergency services settings ...

By the way this is hypothetical.

But I have only got about 10 months experience, that said I have my institute of advanced motorist test soon, so that must show that am a somewhat good driver.

Its like my unit urgently needs drivers, and am the only one who is active enough or can drive.
But I have only got about 10 months experience, that said I have my institute of advanced motorist test soon, so that must show that am a somewhat good driver.
Well quite!
Who would be the better driver someone with two years driving or some one with someone with a year and IAM or ROSPA Gold/Silver (which by the way entitals you to become a ROSPA trainer for your local group.
The army cadet force allows you to drive as long as you have never been done for drink driving or been disqualified.

given that IAM / RoSPA @silver is becoming the basic driver standard for SJA having it will not necessarily speed anything up...
this is also in the environment of considering that formalised response driver training has been mandated for those who require it as part of the driving policy
as I understand it the Cadet forces work to the FMT600 or appropriate tri-service equivalents ...

Far as I know they have 6 response motorbikes

Can I ask a question? Which SJA areas have response motorbikes? Bluelights etc etc.
London District as other areas have relatively little need so borrow LDs Bikes and riders or blag demonstrators and use their own response drivers who also hold IAM/ Rospa for bikes ...
to be honest i doubt other places will be getting them , reflecting the absence of Ambulance service motorcycle responders else where - for a lot of work cycle responders or a 4 wheel RRV is more suitable

Think everyone who drives SJA vehicles need to be ROSPA trained now, or is it just the ones who drive the ambulances with customers/victims/injured people in them?

How are SJA crew decided for assisting at aid events. Thinking along the lines of events such as carnivals.
Just curious as i was attending the Notting hill Carnival at the end of august and saw countless SJA crew walking about, and in static positions with ambulances.
And the odd few paramedics on bicycles pedaling about but thats non related.

Basically, the event manager of Notting Hill Carnival would ring up the local county (being London) say they are interested in us covering the event and it would be risk assessed and everything. Properly also if we have covered the event before they would look at what resources went last time and the Duty Officers report to make sure the right cover is given.
Then its put onto the duty system and sent to the local division, being Notting Hill Carnival it properly would of been sent to all units within the london area, also I think it went onto our members website as well (because it was such a big event) so any member in the Priory of England can see it and if they are interested in covering it then they tell there Divisional Duty Co-ordinator who will book them on it.
The cycle responders could of been SJA as well.
I love doing major events, get to meet tons of people who do the same job as you, but you have never met before. (some good looking ones as well
