I just got my uniform, got some nice magnum force shoes for free.

We have to make a small contribution for our boots if we want some.

I thought something came out from national that boots must now be provided by your division as it is part of your PPE?
And also that the boots must now have ankle support.

(the bog standard ones that most divisions used to buy were horrible to wear).

Never heard that one, never heard any unit in my county giving them out.

Doesnt mean your wrong though, I could see why under health and safety.

footwear for first aiders is Not PPE unless the risk assessment requires EN 345 safety shoes, EN 347 occupational footwear is 'just' uniform .

EN 345 safety footwear is generally only required by crews and logistics personnel

crews as part of the PPE requirements for RTCs etc logistics personnel if they are moving and handling equipment which creates a risk of foot injury

you also have to consider the different types of protection offered by safety footwear as a steel toe caps aren't going to protect against things penetrating the forefoot and midfoot from beneath - that requires a forefoot sole plate and reinforced midfoot shank.

Thought that St John revised this due to the possible need on duty to use carry chairs etc as it is classed as manual handling hence why they started to issue those awful safety boots.

Just out of interest, how many of the SJA members on here would be entitled to the QDJM if it was to be awarded to SJA?

Really anything beyond a basic HSE course, the sort of things members are trained in for duties?

You could become a ETA (emergency transport attendant), or a Community Responder (If you have a car and the is a unit at your local division). Both Role's involve being trained in Advance First aid (Using gases and etc...). The ETA has training with it.

You can learn alot more than the standard HSE FAW course.
- Medical gases
- Airway management / using adjuncts
- Vehicle extraction
- emergency baby delivery
- manual handling using equipment
- fracture management
- pre-hospital trauma management

many more

Finally getting mine this week. Let's hope it actually fits. I know there have been problems for a few females. The men's sizes apparently are okay - let's just hope.

Just got my uniform today. I really like it. The trousers are far too long though, by about a foot (and then some) so I'll have to tac those up. They didn't have my size shirt either and so it's really long too. Doubt I even need the trousers. :p Ah well.

I'm not amazingly pleased about the new jackets. I just think the hi vis ones are better.

I actually quite like the new uniform except for the reversible fleeces. They look awful.

Reversible feelce? That's new to me :O

We've just got a shirt, trousers, a belt, a cap and a jacket. The belts are really nice. Very swish.
