www.policecouldyou.co.uk is reporting that Surrey have frozen recruitment until September this year. Before I get in touch with the recruitment department, does anyone have any idea whats behind it all?

I think that they have something like 60 officers waiting to start and that they stagger start dates. I believe there's 4 a year and 20-25 officers a time, so you do the maths... based on that, I guess if you applied to Surrey now you're looking at a start date sometime in the middle of next year

This is just my guesstimate by the way, recruitment will of course give you the official answer.

Many thanks for your wisdom once again Lord Vader

Also believe that they start their in-house training in July, maybe that has something to do with the delay.

A group of us were told last month that the "gate has been lifted and those who are in the castle are very lucky and will be looked after well" - what?!

Anyway, the long and short of it was that they have more applicants than they can process at the moment and because they are completely changing the whole recruitment process, it has slowed down a lot! I applied in November, had my fitness last month and was told the first possible date for an assessment will be September and a start date could be another 6 months after that.

I think the quicker option is to apply to another force, do your 2 years with them and then transfer back - you're likely to get in to Surrey quicker that way!

Mark - if you want to see the info they gave me then PM me with your details, I'd be happy to pass it on.

Surrey Recruitment for regs told me that the wait time between applying and starding is set to be around 18month to 2 years once they start recruiting again in September.

It was about a month and a half to 2 months ago that I spoke to them, so it might have changed. TVP are close by and dont have such a waiting list

They're still recruiting for specials, though

See Mark, if you had put your application in when I told you

Hope they take off the freeze, otherwise do what the Wise one Munkey has done.

Good of you to be nice and supportive to Mark there!

Wise? You flatter me, but it has worked well for me.
