Me and my pal are planning to go on the 17th. I'll be the one in the DPM UBACS using a rubbishy rental gun because I'm waiting for UKARA stuff to get sorted before I can get my own.

What's the best way to get started with Airsoft? I plan to join my Uni's new Airsoft Society next year, but is there anywhere around Staffs or anything I can do to get started? Maybe apply for one of those 'natural' looking gun licenses?

One of what licenses? You don't need anything like that to play.

Best way to get started is just to go down to a local site with a couple of mates and you can hire everything you need.

Like million says just go down to an airsoft site with some friends and hire what you need and if you like it go a few times more to get all the UKARA stamps you need to get your own gun :)

Awesome, cheers.

But I thought there was a law where you have to have 50% of your gun in an unrealistic colour, unless you had some kind of licence.

Not quite.

You can own a Realistic Imitation Firearm for a number of reasons - airsoft is one of them. In order for the major airsoft 'armoury' stores to be satisfied you are genuine they require you to be UKARA registered.

This involves playing at any one site 3 times in a time period not less than 2(?) months then applying for membership.

Without membership you would struggle to find anywhere that will sell to you anything other than the 'two-tone' versions you refer to.

Its within 3 months :D just to be picky lol

Where about are you Shikari? there is bound to be a First & Only site somewhere near you and there probably the best "airsoft company" around at the minute.

Nope, it's not, the UKARA regs state 3 games in not less than two months.

And to be honest, you can get by without going anywhere near UKARA if you play at a decent site that isn't a member of the UKARA scheme. I've never signed up to it and still manage to procure what I want legitimately, simply by playing at a site covered by public liability insurance etc.

The law you're thinking of is the Violent crime reduction act (VCRA), which does state that. But as has been said there is the defence published by the home office for airsoft skirmishers, military reinactors and the like.

I'd recommend FAO in general, though I think one or two of their marshals can be a little over zealous at times, not naming names and I appreciate they're just looking out for our safety and enjoyment at the end of the day.

That being said, the most relaxed site I've been to tends to have the worst cases of non-hit taking and cheat calling (aka. Whiny little... [insert profanity of choice]).

I'm in Staffs, and will probably be going back to Notts during the week in a month or so.

I haven't read the rules around airsoft guns for a while, so cheers. I'm going to join my Airsoft society next year, like I said, but I would like to get some experience in first.

There's loads of them.

I'm not going on the 17th anymore because my mate has decided he can't go because it's fathers day. Which sucks.

I had no idea there was a thread on this. I play POW in Glasgow but it's full of kids and WALTS who turn up like actual C019 officers with some really good gear. Been Travelling down south with work and I've played a game around the Derby area (not sure name of the site a guy from work took me) wasn't full of kids like Glasgow is. Enjoyed it a lot more. Anyone got a Tokyo Mauri Glock? Looking for reviews? See if it's worth investment.
Edit : spelling
