I'd have actually thought you'd have stood a better chance in London, tbh.

Really? Is it that bad in Cambridge then?

I applied to Cambs last Aug and failed the papershift which was a shock, I am going to apply again when they recruit again, but I will apply to a neighbouring force if I have to just to get the ball rolling, next time I apply I plan to get in, I just wish I had not turned down the Herts intake back in 2003 I would have been in 7 years now

Hope its going well for you Harvb how is your current posting going?

Also Det do you think it may be worth while transfering as a special to Cambridge would it have any good effect on applying to Cambs, I am trying to decide what to do, I love where I am based my Inspector is great and we do some good things but its so far away I dont get to do as many shifts as I would like.

Hey mate, long time no natter

Yeah I'm loving it, thanks, have moved to the station we spoke about before and it's going very well, tarfellymush.

I am finding myself feeling a bit despondent now though, with the situation regarding recruitment into the regs. This really isn't a comment intending to provoke a discussion or another argument, but I sort of hoped that joining as a Special would set me in good stead for better access to Regular recruitment.

At the moment, however, I'm taking this as extended training, so all is good.

If you do ever transfer over, it would be great to see you.

Dont let it get you down I have waited to be a PC for so long now, and I too thought being a special would help it does in a way for your experience but doesnt really help with applying to the regs from there side. Glad its all going well. I can apply again to the regs now but noone is recruiting and its looking at late in the year for cambs again, but I am thinking of transfering although having SC on your shoulder is a little worrying

SC2PC yep I think it would be good for you provided you want to be a reg with Cambs..but you really need to get over the SC&Crown hang up.it matters not 1 jot..your collar is also a 'giveaway' too.
In my time as an SC it has NEVER been a problem.

Be honest with you, I'm proud to wear the SC and Crown. Truth be told, I've met a lot of Specials who were at least as professional as their Reg counterparts.

You are right thinking about it, its not really an issue I should be proud. Only other problem is that Cambs want me to jump through some hoops to transfer across.

This may be nothing, but i got an invitation on Duty Sheet this morning, the description said:

Are you Constabulary trained for interviewing prospective new officers? If so the H.R team are looking for interviewers to assist at the next centre. The assessment centre will be held at Monks Wood, Abbots, Ripton, Huntingdon, PE28 2LR.

Is this a good sign?

That's just for those people who are able to train those guys who are already accepted - the next intake, I believe.

They are looking for Regs/Special officers that are trained for interviews

You know when you went for your PIRT and 2 officers interviewed you, well they did for me one was a special, well that could be you deciding if they get through the interview or not. Could be interesting

That would be so frustrating!!!

I know of people that had their pre-AC interviews this week. Even if they get to the AC and pass looks like they could miss out on the year start rule malarky!

Im gutted about the probable (inevitable???) reg recruitment freeze but it's really not worth worrying about. At least we are all specials (douggy and Harv) and getting good experience. You never know...in 6 months to a year things could change for the better...............maybe :w00t:

I know I'm always Mr Doom and Gloom, but I honestly can't see things changing for the better for the forseeable. No, I'm going to have to rethink!

It seems to be an almost identical story across the entire country. The best way of looking at it is to prepare yourselves for not being a regular officer for at least two or three years - if you happen to get in before that it's a bonus. There's no point in hanging onto a dream that for at least the short term is exceptionally unlikely - even if they do start recruiting again they will get so many applicants that you will have to fight tooth and nail just to get anywhere.

Just seen that the Cambridge recruitment page has changed now

Cant say I did not see that coming, just in the process of transferring to Suffolk as a special so lets see if I have more luck there as a reg in the future, but to be honest I have it set in my mind as years before I get in as a reg

Cambridgeshire Constabulary is not currently recruiting for Police Officers. However, when we do, (which will not be until Spring 2011 at the very earliest), interested persons will need to register their name on-line to attend a 'Police Officer Recruitment Information' evening. The 'Information' evening will have a limited number of spaces and will be advertised on the 'current vacancy' page of the Cambridgeshire Constabulary website.

The recruitment event evenings have not yet been arranged so please check the website on a regular basis as when they are arranged you will be able to book yourself a slot. Until these are booked you cannot register your interest.
