Hiya Guys,

Have noticed a few topics about pretty much the same thing so thought I would post and pin this topic for all to look at before posting! To keep the area tidy please have a look before posting about something that has been done a few days before!!

Interview:

For the inteviews make sure you are dressed smart ie what would be known as buisness dress - Males: Shirt, Tie, Suit. Females: Shirt/Smart top, Skirt suit, Trouser suit.

Make sure you know all about the divison you stay in and also the divison you would like to work. Local and force wide knowledge is paramount to say the least. Know how many officers there is, Regular and Special. Amount of Divisions. Your Div Commander. Div Commander you want to work within. They will grill you on everything. For my Special's interview I got questions they would ask a future Reg - Probation time table for instance.

If you want to become a Special/Regular Officer then you should at least know more than the basic knowledge. They arent going to trick you by asking any questions which the answers arent available easily. Its all about looking and researching.

Speak to serving officers both Reg and Special. The more you speak the more you will learn also!

Medical:

The list of info ive got is:
1. Urine sample
2. Blood pressure
3. Colour Blindness
4. Lung Capacity
5. Distance Vision
6. Hearing Test
7. Lungs/Heart
8. Shoulder/Back movement
9. Walk in a straight line
10. Balance on one leg for 15 seconds
11. On the bed - reflexes
12. On the bed - pushing stomach/breathing in/out

First 6 done by the nurse last 6 with the Doc.

For Specials - No fitness test ie no 1.5 mile run.

For Regulars - You have to sit it after the SET and also again near medical time! Less than 15 minutes is the times for the 1.5 mile run.

If ive missed anything let me know and ill put it in :D

FC/Gillian :prone:

Know your kit and think about how they would be useful!
Don't panic if you don't know something and they answer their own question, just agree, and you have plenty of time to answer, no rush.

Relax and be confident. This all goes for Specials interview anyway.

Can't comment for Special interviews, but for Regs you will need to know or have at least a basic understanding of what happens at Tulliallan. The 6 modules covered, whats expected of you up there, how long you reside, and how many times you go back etc. As Future Cop says, no questions will be trick questions, all the answers to any they ask you will be ready available either on Strathclyde, Tulliallan websites, or indeed on this very forum or suchlike.
Prepare as best you can, know your stuff, take in all thats others have advised, try and keep calm, think before you answer and try not to ramble on. They will make allowance for some nerves, they are human, and remember, be it the first or final interview, you have them interested, so sell yourself and be confident without being cocky! Good luck to all!

Theres a VERY fine line between confidence and arrogance so be yourself and not someone you think they want you to be!

Best of luck!

Hi everyone,

I've got my initial interview in about 6 weeks time. I currently live near Brighton and am having trouble organising a station visit, I've got a probationer contact in Strathclyde that has agreed to answer the questions I need to ask but do you think it'll be a problem if I don't get chance to go to the station?

Cheers!

Jim

I wouldn't worry about it too much, just make sure you make them aware of your circumstances.

Well the best place to e-mail or phone would be the headquarters at Pitt Street, they will be able to arrange a station visit (they are a very helpful bunch) with a serving officer and a probationer

Good Luck

Just for easiness, they'll ask you to do a urine test and the doc will want to check your limbs so it's easier to do it in shorts and t-shirt.

Easy medical, no fitness test at all although I would recommend you get fit because the Sgts will beast you when you start! lol

The 1.5 mile run - is that just around the Force training centre grounds? Is there any serious uphill bits?

Steven, I posted on "SETs what happens on the day" and Marty replied to me on this question :) apparently you just run round the building for 1.5 miles, no severe uphill bits.. for males up to the age of 29 you need to do it in less than 12 minutes..

Yes proper running shoes only. It will be one of the PEIs that takes you out for your warm up etc and they will check everyone's footwear. Basically slip ons aren't secure enough to run in and you're more likely to suffer an injury. It's worth investing in a decent pair of running shoes as if you get in you'll be wearing them a lot both at Jackton and the College. If you can get to one of the proper running shops around Glasgow and get fitted it'll be money well spent.
