SERVING SPECIALS ONLY PLEASE

Folks I am doing a little research on the current feeling of NorPol specials. In recent months I have spoken to a number of specials, old and new, and the recurrent theme seems to be that specials are generally disheartened and feel somewhat under valued.

Things have improved slightly in the last few months with the addition of the Specials Development Officer however he is regularly being drafted into the A/C's / sift for regulars, PCSO's and DO etc. Whilst the development officer is there to recruit and manage the "HR" side of the specials he does not represent the views of the constabulary - thats the job of the Commandant.

Do you think it is time for a change of Specials management within Northumbria Police?

Do you think the Special Constabulary should be represented in Command Team meetings and within the Police Authority?

What can be done to improve the morale of Northumbria Specials and increase the effectiveness of the Constabulary in order assist the force in achieving it's strategic aims and satisfying public needs?

The Northumbria Policing Plan 2008-11 makes no mention of the Special Constabulary whilst regular officers and PCSOs feature heavily in the People and Resouces section. Do you think this is indicative of a low value which is placed on the Special Constabulary?

Would be grateful of your views - if you would rather not post on the open forum please feel free to PM me.

alot of specials could really comment on this, and they should complete the poll - it would be interesting to see the results!!

You will find that SC's are never mentioned in anything the force issues, I complained about something (yes complaining again, haha) that a particular article had PC's, CSO's, DO's, etc. all in the sentence yet no mention of us SC's!!
