May as well bump this and use this with it's content!!

Decided to dig my dads old bike out today and cleaned it up etc for me to start using!! Was looking at buying a bike and upgrading it but I just don't have the funds at the moment, and the one I'm using is lovely to ride!!

Has anyone got any recommendations for good lights?

Will get some pics up later :D

Had a search but didn't find one currently running, and we have a Broom Broom Bikers one so why not a Cycle one!!

So who's into the cycling and what sort?

Also get some pictures up of your bikes etc

I'm a massive cycling fan, haven't been on the bike for nearly a year though due to a leg injury but hoping to get myself a new bike in time for summer!

I used to spend a lot of time just road cycling really, but I've decided my next bike is going to be a bit more special and I'm going to start doing a bit more down hill riding, lots of lovely wooded areas with some good paths so going to get into it

I love cycling..... 98% of my time is out on a bike :aok:

I use my bike for everything.... but mainly I just go cycling for the fun of it. When I'm out and about I like to go through woods and stuff, but I'm constantly in and out of both urban and rural enviroments. I also like doing a bit of Geocaching when I'm cycling about.

The bike I own is this one (picture wasn't taken by me). I honestly don't have enough good words to say about it..... its just brilliant :(

Well one of my full sus bikes is now working... for the time being!! Been out riding it tonight and it seems ok!!

Pumped the tyres up to 35 psi and love it, it's the first time I've done my tyres that hard but the ride is so much nicer, much easier to go quick too!!

Lights now as I need it for my duties when I work late turn

Nice one Ben :w00t:

Lights?? I'm using the Niterider Cherry Bomb for rear and the Magicshine MJ-808 for front..... both are great especially for going through pitch black lanes, woods and canals!!

I really like the MJ-808 but just can't justify how much it is :)

I'm currently looking at some of the older cateye models of similar design, only thing putting me off those is the larger battery packs!

Believe me, the MJ-808 is a great price, especially for what your get .... I've noticed it's increased since I bought mine tho - maybe due to popularity. The Niterider Ultrafazer is a good buy - if you can get it around the 20 squid mark :aok:

I've only just made my way to this group - hello everyone. I've been a cycle commuter for many years (eight on a Raleigh Spitfire MTB, then changed to a Giant MTB earlier this year - no prestige makes for me, unfortunately) but have recently had to hang up my panniers for the time being as I've just changed jobs and my new place of work is a thirty-mile journey up the M6! Hopefully, though, I will soon be getting back into the saddle for policing duties. Specials cyclist: two hobbies for the price of one. Nice.

Anyway, just found this interesting story and wondered what my fellow PS pedallers had to say about it...

Cycling industry gives economy £3bn boost

Cycling generates nearly £3bn a year for the UK economy, a report by the London School of Economics has found. The figure takes into account factors such as bicycle manufacturing, retail and cycle-related employment.

The report says £51m was raised for UK manufacturers from the 3.7 million cycles sold in 2010 - a rise of 28% on the number of cycles sold in 2009

More than a million people also started cycling last year, bringing the total number of cyclists to 13 million.

Last year more than £1.5bn was spent on bikes and another £850m on accessories, with the LSE estimating that the cycling industry is now worth some £2.9bn a year.

There are now 23,000 people working in cycling, contributing more than £600m to the economy in wages and taxes.

The report also says rising fuel costs, improved cycle networks, concern for the environment, and the pull of the Olympics are all possible factors for the increase in popularity for cycling.

And it says a 20% increase in cycling levels by 2015 could save millions of pounds in reduced congestion, pollution levels and NHS costs. The report says that regular cyclists take 7.4 sick days per year, compared with 8.7 sick days for non-cyclists, saving around £128m through reduced absenteeism, with projected savings of £2bn over the next 10 years.

Dr Alexander Grous, of the LSE, who conducted the research, said: "The good news is that structural, economic, social and health factors seem finally to have created a true step-change in the UK's cycling scene."

Stewart Kellett, of British Cycling which is the governing body of UK cycle sport, said: "This report is further evidence that when more people get involved in cycling there are measurable benefits to the individual, their family, their employer, the environment and the economy as whole."

Don't suppose anyone could recommend a set of lights that are based around being able to see the things infront of you rather than just being scene by everyone else. I'm looking at spending roughly up to £30, a bit more for decent quality and good life expectancy.

And also a decent set of mudguards?

well it's getting to that time of year again, the bike is getting dusted off from the garage and im going to take it out tonight and a few rides over the next few weeks to prepare for commuting to my summer job in town in a month or so... :)

how i've missed the barage of (incorrect and misinformed) abuse from motorists of "get off my road" " i pay road tax (personal favourite)" and of course "your supposed to cycle on the left you ******" when you take primary to avoid the door zone, misc. hazards or in a filter lane, etc. :( :rage:

CAUTION - Video is Not Safe For Work

(Contains swearing, as you can guess by the title)

Came across this video and i've got to say it certianly reminded me of some of the cyclists i see on a commute... and gave me a good chuckle, i'm sure some of you will appreciate it also, although not if your easily offended by profanity :)
