On offer now and of interest to emergency service types, an O2 prepay sim-card - the last three digits of the phone number are "999".

This is the very latest version of the O2 "genie" prepay sims, whereby if you top up monthly you get free texts according to the scale below:

At least £10 p/m = 300 free texts
At least £15 = 500 free texts
At least £30 = UNLIMITED free texts

There are other pre-pay sims of this type on eBay yet very few are of this latest type with the new unlimited texts option.

So visit the eBay link below for your chance to own a mobile number that emergency service personnel up and down the country would love to have!

It does say the "Unlimited" option is new, in a fancy flash starburst thingy on the pack - I know the other bits have been available for a while though.

Perhaps would of been tempted to bid on that if the owner had used his head and not published the whole of the number for all and sundry to get hold of.

I'm sure that's a bid I won't particularly miss :smiley_offtopic:

I find providing as much info as possible the key to good auctions, and in this particular instance it avoids the inevitable "what is the whole number?" questions that roll in when selling something like this where the number itself is a key selling point.

Yes I agree for most auctions but not for numbers, as previously stated. I have purchased o2 sims on ebay before which were 4 sets of sims with consecutive ending numbers. They had replaced 3 of the digits with asterisk to protect the identity of the users number.

Even more prudent, as you say a number ending in 999 is most likely going to be snapped up by emergency services personnel and whilst it would be unlikely I can't help but feel you giving out the whole number just increases a un-necessary risk to problems encountered after purchase, or for someone that just has too much time on their hands.

Who gives a damn if you don't give out 3 digits, the people buying said sim will be doing so by the novelty fact of the 999 prefix on the end. It's just like blanking a number plate when posting pictures of your car online etc, common sense. Oh well certainly won't be me bidding for it now as you said.

I was interested but i am also put off by the number on display. :smiley_offtopic:

As its on 0 bids may i suggest you edit it or take it down and re-advertise it while you can with the number advertised as 0785***67999 then i may consider bidding on it.

Personally i dont the like the idea of people getting hold of the number then getting prank calls and texts afterwards.

I think the reason it has no bids is more to do with the fact it's only just been listed and the starting price is quite high for a sim card so bids will occur more towards the end on the auction.

If it doesn't sell, I'll consider relisting it with numbers asterisked.

Do you seriously think someone will buy your SIM card just because it ends in 999?

I think you'll find someone would rather get a brand new one, for FREE from any major network provider.

Someone bought one off me on eBay that didn't even end in 999 for a fiver just the other day, if that answers your question.

Some people prefer to pay a little ammount to a third party private seller than risk the mobile phone provider getting their details. Certain undesirables love to use pay as you go sim cards that arent linked to them, was the one you sold for a fiver second hand and already activated?

Have you seen some of the stuff people get excited about on here? On the ebay page for that auction are a couple of other auctions for 'police related sims' with bids around £200!

Nope I have a few, all packaged in original packaging and brand new. Free from O2 as I'm on a contract with them.

Despite the fact many people can get free ones that way, it still seems there are people out there who will pay for them. I've even seen newsagents selling various sim cards.

I just noticed one of them had 999 on the end and thought it was a unique selling point that might generate higher bids from those in the emergency services or enthusiasts, rather than just getting the usual 4 or 5 quid for them, if that.

It didn't sell though and given some of the posts above (especially Godfather's mention of £200!) I may consider re-listing without the complete number, and mentioning around various police/999 sites and forums.

Do! Obviously people will pay it mate, I only saw those prices when looking at your listing (it shows other similar items and the bidding was up and around £200 with time to go!)

I've got a number that goes 079995*****
It was a novelty when I first got it but once you've had it a while you're not that bothered.
