So, it seems that us lucky lot on this months intake for specials will have our attestation before we even start training! Thought that was a bit strange  . Not sure what im gonna wear, suit and tie job i guess.
Anyone know what exactly the attestaion consists of?? Have a rough idea but would like to be clued up before i get there!
Now, gonna have to find 5 people to invite....

I agree, seems strange that comes before training. I noticed that our attestation is on the same day as the initial training. I don't know whether to wear formal to the training and then go straight to the attestation or change into formal after training. What’s everyone else doing???

Hey Guy's
I have my attestation on saturday 21st also. From what i have been told by cadet liason officer and another special constable is that it is been sworn in by a magistrate and signing a warrant. (You recieve your card on uniform fitting). Its just to give you your powers and explanation on how you use them.

when has everybody else got their unifrom fitting?

Look forward to meeting you

I've got my uniform fitting on Wednesday morning (25th July). Can't believe that we will be issued with our warrant cards before we finish all the training.

So does this mean that once we are given the warrant card we have the powers to use at our discretion?

My intake last year was sworn in on our first day of training aswell. You 'officially' hold the powers of a constable from the day of your attestation.

The day consists of receiving the oath you have to read out, a quick few words from S/Supt Woodcock (assuming he's who will be there with you), then you each go up to the front one by one, read your oath in front of the JP, then sit back down again.... then it's tea and biscuits time. Then you'll receive a certificate of your oath with your name on, signed by the JP in a nice Wilkinsons photoframe to hang wherever you see fit.

I'm in the wrong force...we didn't get a wilko's frame...or tea & biscuits for that matter

Just because you've got a warrant card don't be tempted to use it before you know how. It is handy to have though if yours open doors like ours do.

:D

We're obviously far posher over the border.

Our warrant cards don't open doors - you need a seperate door card for that - I'm sure all will be explained during training. Most of the Lincoln 'boxes' have codes for doors though, not key cards. Not sure about any other areas.

NO. It certainly doesn't. You will get yourself into very very deep water and it will all be over before its even started.

Your warrant card is there for ID purposes when ON DUTY, other than in a really dier emergency and I mean if life is in serious risk, it should never come out.

Best of luck to all those starting tomorrow, I was hoping to join you but it appears that they are still messing about with my medical stuff so looks like I missed the boat.

Good luck guys!

There is some good advice here about using your warrant cards, or not as the case may be. Wait until you know what you are doing, and have had the training, its better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid, than to open it and show that you are!
