Sorry if it's been asked before but I need a quick show of (( Specials )) hands as to who has a personal issue radio. And I mean one that is assigned to your collar number.

I'm attempting to get the issue (( no pun intended )) of radios sorted out in my Division as it is far from ideal.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I do have a personal issued colour radio, which i take home (no locker yet). The TETRA number doesn't include my collar number tho, but if you saved the number which came up on screen, i could always be contacted via TETRA. i hope that makes sense.

Lee

Edit - I do believe they can be programmed to your collar no#, but it can take a number of weeks to do so.

Cheers Lee

bump.

C'mon guys, I know some Divisions in Lancashire do issue TETRA radios to SC's that are programmed with collar numbers, I just need to get an idea of where, how many and if that depends if they are issued or not.

Got issued mine on Friday and I've been given the new Motorola MTH800 (colour with GPS). None of the other bobbies at my station even have this one yet.

If its like my new mobile phone with colour screen and GPS the battery will last half a day! Why dont they keep these devices simple and reliable?

Good luck with that! I haven't. However I know Ken has now managed to get his mitts on some Special's only radios with a secure cabinet at Lancs for us now, so it's a step in the right direction

Well I used it on Friday for duty for 5.5hrs and left it on at home all Saturday evening, just to test the battery  and it was still on 3/4 battery.

Western have a pool of radios which are on a long term loan to officers. They can be and often are recalled when officers are not performing regular duties and we need them for others.

The only radios that have the owners collar number in belong to the S/Inspector and the S/Sgts and this is only by agreement with the Chief Commandant.

As far as I know, Eastern Specials have to use pool radios but most of them are on long term loan to the regular attendees. None of them are assigned to individual collar numbers though as they're all technically pool sets so could be used by anyone.

As an aside, the new radios aren't as good as the older 'green screen' ones - the batteries go quicker, and the menus don't have the numbers on so you have to scroll through everything.

Further to this. Does it not bother you guys that patrol solo ? If you needed assistance and pressed your red button on a pool radio, the Control room do NOT know who you are and further more that you are an SC.

Also using the short cut commands ie Request To Speak button, this is no good with a pool radio.

I think the least we deserve is a properly issued radio.

Ahhh, feel better now I've got that off my chest

What??

If you're booked on CRS properly, comms can see that its you asking for a request to speak, same with an emerg button press. Having a radio attached to collar number serves no real purpose apart from private tetra for colleagues.

You have to book into your radio and DMS and also have comms book you on.

Whenever I try to log into my radio though it delivers the message and then just says

"Invalid login..."

I don't want to post info on how to book on but if someone could PM exactly how to do it that'd be wonderrrrful. I think I must be doing it wrong

When you log in it will show your callsign on the little box in comms, but either way if you are pressing your red button you will be hollering anyway, so comms will still know who you are. (even if they don't recognise your voice and you don't say your callsign, then someone else on the radio surely will)
