hi folks.
I was just wondering after reading several other posts and specials diaries, is it just me or is it alot easier to get into Lincolnshire Specials than a lot of other areas. I know after speaking to the recruitment man at the conference he seemed to voice a similar opinion. While im glad it was now, after reading some posts i would have really enjoyed some of the other training aspects the other forces do. (maybe not the PIRT). I dont know maybe it is just me but i feel although the training has been brill i feel it could have been a bit more "hands on". Also we have no tests to see if we have retained any information we have been taught, I am writing my own "handbook" with all the notes i have taken and keep reading through it to make sure its sinking in, especially being one of the "older ones".
I would welcome others views on this, perhaps Im just mad !

Hi bca64
After reading your previous posts i believe we are in the same training group. I totaly agree with how you feel about the training we are currently receiveing. I just hope we get further divisional training!

Well, you're in luck. The Divisional training system employed in the West Division, should you be stationed there, has changed and we know have a set timetable of all our training for this year. This will include role plays and hands on training in the next couple of months, something I won't get to do! Things like PND's, Drink driving and how to do basic files are all going to be done, so the training you get for the next year will be very important!

Oh yeah, forgot to say, the knowledge you pick up by going out on regular patrols with the regulars is also invaluable. You go out and deal with certain incidents regularly enough and the knowledge will rub off on you and you'll learn how to do a lot of things. Course, a basic knowledge in the law and the main offences are a plus!

The training you receive at HQ is the bare bones of what you will be doing, it is only giving you the basics skills that you will require, and you cannot beat on the job training.

Don’t forget you will get two years of one to one training while you are on probation.

Also

We have extra training sessions once a month on South div.

yeah most regs love taking out specials as it means not only is the call sign then double crewed but also for company lol and when you chose your beat team come to the city centre or west end if you're in Lincoln as then you will be based at west parade at the centre of the action

Though to be honest, I'm not a big fan nor supporter of the neighbourhood policing teams, well more accurately put, I reckon we're better suited for other things.

As you made fully aware to the Assistant Chief Constable at the Specials Conference

I don't think it's a brilliant idea for the urban areas, but I love it with the Hykeham Rural South beat team, we've got an area of about 7 or 8 villages and even in the short time I've been with the team have got to know a huge portion of the (good and bad) kids in the area, along with the neighbourhood watch coordinators, parish councillors and local business owners, and it's good to always know what's going on on "your patch".

Well yeah, I guess I ought to say, to each their own, but honestly, to do NPT's effectively in Lincoln, where there is normally just one beat manager and 4 specials, you can't go out on your own, although I understand there are some 'exceptions' shall we say?

But honestly, I don't think there is any continuity and there is very little point in my opinion, that we as specials can do. I mean, meeting with the local guys is all well and good, but because of our time constraints, that'll be all we ever really do! Not as much dealing with the problem etc etc. Course, I'm just going by my own experiences. For others, it maybe different, but like I've said before and I will keep saying, I'm not a fan
