Does anybody know if there is a limit to the amount of noise a car exhaust can legaly make? There is a guy down my road with a modified Vauxhall Corsa and im not joking, the exhaust is the loudest i have ever heard, plus he keeps driving up and down the road to show off, sometimes he goes up and down 20 times in 30 mins. I spoke to him the other day and got the royal f off treatment. He also drives extremely dangerously and almost hit a small girl on her bike yesterday as he came flying round the corner at stupid speeds. He is 17 and only passed his test in December 05. It seems to me that if you're not allowed to use your horn after 11:30PM cos it's disturbing people, surely there must be restrictions on modified exhausts too!

I would call it in and also speak to your neighbours to see if they are also miffed about this guy.
When he next does it, call it in and if 2 persons complain, then a S.59 RTA warning can be slapped on. If he does it again, he can kiss goodbye to his pride and joy.

LOL, it is tempting to shove something up the pipe, but I do resist. And yeah, loads of neighbours are very miffed!

There is a law regarding excess exhaust noise and cars do have to have the proper equipment to silence them - will have a look, im sure you can issue a vdrs or something.
next time he does something careless or dangerous, NIP him for it - even if CPS dont prosecute i believe he automatically gets a warning letter (i think)

I would also put in a form 52 if he is driving dangerously.

Sorry for invading your forum
A section 59 warning is a good one as if they get another one in the next 12 months, the car is inpounded
Could also issue NEFPN for no silencer.

Thanks for all the suggestions, however, the problem has resolved itself as the muppet wrote the car off around 6 days ago. Sympathy? Nah.

Hope no one was injured in the process, and hope he can't afford another car until the muppet grows up a little
