Hi there

I recently applied to Grampian Regulars but failed at the final hurdle on the assessment day under the creativity and flexibility competency but I am going to re apply in Nov this year as you have to wait a year. I am however waiting for my medical to join the specials as I thought this would help when I re apply. Does anyone know how many specials work in Grampian and can you give me some insight into how they are thought of.

Thanks

hiya mindy, welcome to the forum, quite a few grampian specials use this site as you can appreciate.this was a opening line to actually see how many use this tool.and as you can see by the replies its well used by a chosen few!!..all the best with your application for the specials and i feeel although it doesnt guarantee a full time place at least it will give you a fairly good background into the force and how it works.and it will show that your motivated.anyw ay.once again all the best, you will find the users here helpfull and some vastly experienced!! esp gazza and john and all the others as a matter of fact,,be safe, chris.

Hi Mindy, as Chris said, welcome to the forum. If you do a search on this site for "specials numbers" I know there was a thread about that not so long ago, which highlighted how many specials each Scottish force had see here I've not had any problems with the regulars really, most are all helpfull and friendly, although you do get the odd one or two who can be a bit funny towards you, but as you can appreciate, its the same in every job. Good luck with your medical to join the specials anyway, and let us know how you get on.

Thanks guys - will let you know how I get on - I have been waiting since Feb for a date - I checked with Specials recruitment and they said they were quite busy.

By the way how did you find the training

Hi Mindy,

I was told Specials recruitment is on hold due to HR flat-out processing regular applications.

I'm waiting for Specials training dates to be confirmed (since Nov 05) but need more Specials applicants who have passed the assessment day stage to up the tally in my group before dates can be confirmed. Bit of a catch22 situation!

If you pass the remaining stages you may end up in my group for training!!

Had a letter today asking me to compelte the medical and eye test I asked recruitment if I needed to do them again as did them in Novemeber when I had my assessment for the regulars but still have to do them. I emailed the recruitemnt dept to find out if they have any dates set aside for the medicals and the rest of the process as I explained to them that I am re applying for the regulars in Nov and there was no point in me joining the specials if it is going to take months, but I was told that as I had gone through to the assessment stage it would be a quicker process so I have asked them to confirm that this is still the case.

Just a quick question for those going down for the joint training weekend...

Im assuming we will need our uniform, but on the email with the travel times it said nothing about what to take / wear for journey down. For those who have been in past years, can you please clarify.

Cheers

Based on previous years, you will need to take full uniform including OST/PPE, which you will use on the Sunday (I think JOHN is going to confirm this is the case) and casual clothing for the get together on Friday and Saturday nights.

I have it on full authority that we are still "Shirts & Ties" for the weekend.
John, put away your white traffic hat, A2F drop that fleece, NoddyN forget the handbag.
See you Friday
