-----------------------------------------
Hello all,
Quick intro of myself...
19 years old, studying Aerospace Engineering at University of Hertfordshire. From Norfolk originally but applying to Herts Constabulary.
Sat PIRT last Saturday (4/3) and passed first time, and have an interview on the 22/3.
I suspect the interview is something which is commonly asked about (I don't suspect, I know, I used the search rolleyes.gif ), however I was wondering if people could offer any advice to a few problems I think I may come across.
I don't know the aims of Herts Constabulary, nor the key figures at the top of the pyramid, as I don't live here (well, not literally)... will this be a problem?
Am I correct in assuming that each Force conducts their recruitment differently? If so has anyone undergone the Herts recruitment process and can give me a bit of gen?
Does the fact i'm so young and handsome (well, one out of two isn't bad) go against me? Will the board be looking at me as a teenager and already deciding i'm not up to the task, either physically or mentally (without being arrogant I sat the PIRT around a circular table where we could see each other's answers, and theres some stupid people about... and we all passed!).
Also, as an RAF applicant (well, I was and will be again in a few years), i'm aware of supply and demand on applicants to posts. Is Herts currently under/over-staffed? If so, will this go against me?
Any help anyone can give me will be much appreciated, and whilst I don't out much hope for a pass on the interview due to my lack of Police knowledge and local area, I would like to make the most of it. A fail at this stage will probably mean me not re-applying at a later date, however we'll see.
I hope to be making the most of this forum, which from what i've seen has proven to be very helpful and friendly... so again hiya, and thanks in advance for any advice you guys and gals can give lil' ol' me.
Cheers biggrin.gif
Joe.

It shouldn't be.

No.

No. That is what the interview & fitness test are for. The police force commonly takes rejected regular applicants who don't have enough life expereince and asks them to join as special constables. It there fore shouldnt matter how much life experience you have, just that you show a real enthusiasm for the job.
When I was in Herts last year they wanted to more then double their recruitment numbers. Even if they have managed to get this number to join they will also have a large number regularly departing due to joining the regulars or for other reasons... There should always be room... however it may take time to get you on a course and get you a start date..Is Herts currently under/over-staffed? If so, will this go against me?

You may also get asked what are the specials role
so say football and rugby crowd control and nuisance patrols thats not all they do but as i read up on it and made sure I was fully prepared, good nights rest its not as scary as you think, quite the opposite.
Also go in ther keep your head up and talk clearly and with confidence and assertiveness as that is what they look for also.
Good luck matey im sure you will do fine tell us how it goes!!!!

Don't get too hung up on the McPherson report. You wont need to know everything about it! just have an overview of it.
Hi Sarin (if you are reading.....how's it going?)

The rearranged one had to be rearranged again as i'm not in Herts over April. Theres a letter waiting back at Uni for me with an interview date post Apr 25th... so if I pass it, hopefully it'll be in time for the June course!
Although how i'm going to manage the consecutive weekends travelling to and from Herts, plus work, I don't know!
