Changing the subject just a wee bit, does anyone remember seeing the ITV show mysteries which was presented by Carol Vorderperson?

There was a interesting bit featuring an old BBC computer that wasn't compatible with anything couldn't be conected to the internet for obvious reasons but it kept getting gooky messages from 2309.. (2309 maybe the year).

The people that owned the computer challanged the messanger to reveal themselves and the final chilling message said "we will but only if your prepared to lose your soul"... needless to say they left well alone.

There was a also that picture published a few years ago taken somewhere on the pennines of a fiery being, scientists confirmed that the picture taken by mistake may be of an advanced life form in another dimension.

Getting back to the Bible Code yes they are kinda implying that we were dumped here by some advanced life form, which would explain why prayers are rarely answered. It is impossible for anybasic life form to hitch a ride on a comet/meteor and survive the cold and radiation in deep space (possibly for thousands of years).

As for wars (thats the evil in us perhaps a trait the spaceman doesn't like) and I don't believe in God creating the Earth as is told, mainly because I believe in big bang, natural disasters are the planets way nothing more, we live here and adapt if we can't adapt we die, simple as that.

Does anyone really believe that ONE almighty God created us ?

mmm NO

If this is the case why does that God allow such atroscities to occur such as murder, floods, war, terrorisim and world starvation etc...

Has anyone proved his/her existence mmm NO but millions believe in something that has the same likelihood as existing as Santa Claus just checked and haven't been hit by lightning.

Could it be that we were created by a race of advanced aliens and we in fact an experiment after all...

A bloody expensive experiment , you have been watching to many x files

There are many conspiracy theories all of which have an element of truth and sceptisim about them...

Yes of course Paul McCartney is really a double, A plane never crashed into the Twin Towers and the Apollo moon landings were shot in a field outside Slough.
You can spin any event into a conspiracy, what you have to ask is the reason and the answer the nonsense sells , people buy the books author gets rich, end of.

Do aliens really exist.... have we been collaborating with them since the 1940's with the main start being in Roswell...Who knows.... World Governments perhaps

Please don't tell me that you are one of those people that believe that that very ill looking autopsy "dummy" crashed here in 1947 after its intergalactic navicom packed up, you know that good looking bloated chap with no genitals

By the way you know that fairy that supposed to have put a sixpence under your pillow when your teeth fell out I really hate to break it to you but.........

The world is supposed to end in 2012 a year before I get my 30 years in, best I cancel my pension contributions, the world will end when we ( or GWB ) kills it with pollution or a nuclear war

Nope Roswell is a lie, I don't believe in ET or anything that looks like him, if aliens exsist then they will be in another dimension (the fiery human shape).

Who says 2012? Incidentally a Super Volcanoe (Yellowstone National Park - US) that has the power to kill life on earth appears to be re-awakening after thousands of years, it is actually the size of the Yellowstone Park and when it blows most of North America will be incinerated, water levels in lakes have been rising and geological activity suggesting magma moving towards the surface, nice cheery thought to end the evening with!

No chance. Some bloke/woman many years ago wrote a book which turned out to become a cult possession. We are organisms, we are born, we die. There is no big bloke at the top waving us in. If there is, he's sick, he/she likes killing people.

Rubbish.

Weak people turn to religion. They are afraid of the truth and look for something to take their mind off it. It is just weakness.

True, but that is just Santa as we know it/him i.e. jolly fat man in red on a reindeer, the idea has been around a bit longer. There's loads of Santa's out there, one of the Scandinavian coutries I think it is has 3 or 4 of 'em.

The question is where did everyone get the same idea from?

We're drifting off topic somewhat which I want to avoid, but it's an interesting fact about 'Santa Claus'.

Saint Nicholas (Father Christmas for want of a more common expression) has been around for a long, long time. His traditional garb was green and he was - supposedly - thin and miserable along with looking it. Of course, the image has become corrupted over the years, but the worst corruption of all was a Coca Cola publicity stunt (back in the 30s I believe) when they turned his costume into red and white - as we are familiar with now. Of course he became fatter and more jolly over the years which is what we recognise today.

Anyhow, if we can steer back to topic...

I have to say that I find that particularly offensive.

Religious observance for many people has a much greater meaning than you suggest and in the absence of any coherant arguement to the contrary, I would respectfully suggest that you keep such broad sweeping generalisations to yourself. Notwithstanding that the fact that seems somewhat fashionable as of late to knock religion (Christianity in particular), your views don't appear to be based on any intelligent or reasoned line of thinking.

But thanks for your considered opinion anyway,

Hi Karma

Again calm down it's a free country and people have the right to express any view on here they wish ( proving that they are not racist, sexist or obscene etc) We can also make wide sweeping generalisations if we choose without someone throwing their teddy in the corner because they don't like it, I have bit my tongue on many of your recent replies to postings but feel that you really need to take a deep breath and stop taking these postings to heart and be a bit more tolerant

If you don't like what is being posted then by all means make a constructive argument against it but your "I would respectfully suggest that you keep such broad sweeping generalisations to yourself" and "But thanks for your considered opinion anyway", replies to every posting you don't agree with is becoming rather rude and frankly getting a bit boring.

Whilst I don't agree with Howzat's simplistic view he/she has every right to post it .

Without being rude no one has appointed you as the moral conscience of this forum or to censor every post and we, myself and I will post what we want within the rules so you can respectfully request what you like, you are not a Mod and no one has appoined you as one. If you wish to become a Mod I'm sure LV will consider your application

so much for respecting diversity...

Actually I agree with KP but Howzat being from Taz and only 18 I can cut him some slack there.

by saying religion Howzat hasn't realised that he could cause a kerfuffle and not only offend Christians of whatever practice but also Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and so on. Actually coming from Oz he should be aware that this sort of thing is equally iffy considering that he lives in a a country where diversity is welcomed.

There now, deep breaths everyone, count to ten...

As I myself have said in the past, we don't mind controversial opinions or postings so long as they're backed up with reasoned debate in some form. Doubtless others will strongly agree or disagree with any opinion - but so long as we recognise and understand others' opinions or at the very least listen to them, then we can ask no more.

It's been suggested that religion is for the weak. Undoubtedly it is a strong crutch for some, certainly it's not for me. However, perhaps a committed worshipper would argue against that. Nevertheless, this discussion isn't really about religion per se; feel free to start a new discussion regarding that. This discussion is about the Bible Code.

If we can get back onto topic now I'd be grateful: we've had some good debate thus far, let's not turn this into a slanging match.

I agree David enough said

I have read a bit about the bible code and my opinion is that if you look hard enough you will find any word you want to, a bit like one of those word puzzles where you circle letters to make words. I am sure if you ran the puzzle page through a computer you could get loads of words spelling out events in history.

I also think if there was anything in it, the US for example would have a large team of experts on it ( maybe they have) trying to prevent futher disasters/terrorist attacks.

OH dear have we created the latest ISM... religionism....

Religion is always going to be a topic that stirs up views from both ends of the belief spectrum.

For my personal opinion... there is so much in this world that we do not understand i have no proof either way if there is a God, or some form of higher being or not...

I do agree somewhat with the comments made about faith and the human need to have it. which is why so many people do have one.. In times of terrible tragedy like we have seen recently, some people use it to strength their views that there can be no god. others take comfort in their faith and find parts of the bible to explain away such incidents.

For me, i try to live my life and treat people how i would like to be treated, do i follow the rules of the bible.. no. maybe im just hedging my bets in case i do have my day of judgement!!

The bible code is an interesting and in depth subject, just because they made a tv program about it dont make it real thou...

Yes it does, because thats what the Torah, Jewish scriptures and dead sea scrolls were written in.

Last night I heard a scientist say he believed that there wasn't life anywhere else but earth (although he couldn't prove it) but if you put that into the context that the scientists of Marco Polo's day thought the earth was flat, later (when the Rocket was developed) on people thought that by travelling on a train over 20 mph would cause humans to explode

in 20 or 30 years time the world will be a much different place just look how much has changed in the last 20, our outlook will change because of the discoveries made by science, what the code may be trying to tell us is that secrets will be revealed when we reach a certain stage of development.

Another thing these aren't prophecies in the sense of Nostradamus but as I was trying to point out earlier mearly what has happened, what is happening and what could could happen if we continue on a certain path, only an advanced life form could travel from our past to our present and to our future and back again with ease (they would be able to do this because of the needs of space travel).

Just to muddy the waters further the Torah/or Old Testament in the bible weren't all written down by Moses, there is no way he could have done it all.

OK so say we have the technology to reach the nearest star outside our solar system within say 5 years travelling time (not posible at the moment) we then discover there is a planet much like our own but hasn't developed, do we land and exploit it for all its worth and ruin a new civilillisation or do we stand back and wait because the time isn't right?

In the words of Chris De Burgh.. A spaceman came travelling.....

But what if he came during the time of and presented himself to...

Nero..

Bloody Mary...

Napoleon..

Hitler...

Pol Pot...

these people would have probably exploited the visitors for their own ends.

Perhaps we are so up ourselves that we actually believe we are so developed and cool as a civillisation when in fact.. face it folks we are far from it..

Who knows maybe we are just some spacemans little experiment.. nothing more than intergallatic pond life.

But what the Bible Code does seem to do is recocile the basic belief in relgion and science.

We can't believe anything, please don't tell me Nessie doesn't exist as I have booked a holiday to the Loch to see him/her

Good point Panda Plodder possibly why if aliens did exist they wouldn't book any holidays here, for a start they would get ticketed, towed or clamped but back to the bible code, not convinced

I watched the programme a few weeks back about the Bible Code too, and I think it was pretty well written off as false. The fact you can get so many of these words or 'predictions' out of the song (if you can call it that) Ice, Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice kind of summed it all up! And in Moby Dick the words crossed, and many others appeared on the same pages.

It's a great idea though, but all just a big coincidence, although the author will thank you for whipping up the excitement and selling a few more copies for him, after all thats why he does all the big publicity things like warning world leaders they are about to be assasinated.

Of itself that's a valid argument for the existence of God, our understanding of science pretty much breaks down when you get to a sub-atomic level. Who's to say that God, or an alien intelligence, didn't set these rules in motion?

When you look at the odds of;

The universe existing
The universe not collapsing
The universe creating suitable habitats for life
The universe creating, and sustaining, life
Life becoming intelligent (relatively speaking )
The creation of you

It's not hard to wonder if there was some kind of guiding hand behind it all...

did watch an intersting programme called "what we still don't know" on C4 the other day...it was a series of programmes but i only caught the final installment...

a scienctist made an interesting point...
what is interesting is that atoms have assembled into entities (i.e. us) that are somehow able to ponder their origins...i think that is somewhat significant
