Even if you deem to class my view as "Anti"  i do not think you have a right to say it is not balanced, nor whether it is right or wrong, just because it is not in line with yours.

Indeed the very ethos of the service is to listen , understand and embrace others views and perceptions of issues.

The initial reference to repsonse driving did not mention blues and twos however bear in mind when a response vehicle is deployed this will often be the case.

What a hypocritical thing to say. If he has no right to say if you are wrong what gives you the right to say he is?

He has 7 years operational experience to balance his views on, what knowledge do you have of the force?

As you have said yourself the intital post said nothing of blues and twos. Later posts mentioned it but the policy has been spelled out and there can be no exeptions to force policy.

I am sure that the force press office can give you the actual text of the policy if you wish.

In light of the other thread in the Northamptonshire Area, I feel this is another attempt to get members caught up in singular argument and and goad them and illecit information rather than go through official channels, as far as I am concerned I have posted my views and have the operational Experience with Northants Police to back them up and I have seem nothing no argument to question my views.

Very true.
So why is it you seem to be setting out to goad posters with the few posts you have so far produced Victor?

That is against the ethos of this forum, you are a relatively new poster so I will mete the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.

An interesting discussion, please try and keep it on the level.

And remember - we're not all clones, people are entitled to hold different views

From viewing the posts on this thread I get the impression that Victor is not goading at all, but simply putting sensible arguments forward as to the consequences should a terrible incident occur to a volunteer Police Officer (a Special). Victor does seem to be hitting a very raw nerve with some of you though!
From browsing through this and other Specials forums, the subject of driving Police vehicles is one of, if not the, most discussed topics on the forums, with an army of posters unhappy that their Force will not train them to be response drivers. Why is this one issue so important to you all, if it is not for the thrill of the thought of driving outside the boundaries of the Highway Code?
There seems to be comparitively few topics on general Police work subjects.
Can anyone of you, as you put it, "goaded" posters honestly say that you have 100% assurance, which is written into Force Policy, that the Force will back you if you are the unlucky one involved in what could be a tragic incident?

Well Said !!

Although, I dont post much, Im a regular reader to this forum, and have found the site really useful, I especially like the fact, that we can ask questions and obtain views from other specials from our local force, to get an informed and 'friendly' response!

Whilst Im a great beleiver in constructive debate, and love a bit of friendly banter, some of the comments within this thread seem to be trying to intentionally get peoples back up !

Im currently in training , and was intending to go to FHQ this weekend and try and encourage other members of the intake to join the forum, ( well apart from the couple that already contribute on here - u know who u r  ) , but I suspect they might be put off , or at the very least hesitant about asking questions on here, in the fear that it might spark off a similar 'discussion'

Hope 'normal service' is resumed shortly !!

Have to say, I agree.

Put simply, driving cars at excessive speed when responding to emergency calls is a dangerous thing to do and carries a huge amount of responsibility - both for the driver and other road users. Anybody disagree?

It's just that there didn't appear to be much recognition of that in some of the earlier posts which seemed to be focusing more on how easy/quickly Specials could get behind the wheel.

There can be no consiquences, Specials are not allowed to drive response cars! People who do the course have to prove they are sensible enough to drive the cars and any "speed freaks" or "thrill merchants" will be weeded out.

Why are you two asking these questions of us? We have answered we can give you no more!

Well let me iterate it too Barncopxx. You too have very few posts.. and for your third post..its fairly pointed too. If you are a Power User you have access to reference section which has guides to various aspects of the law.. and if you look in our News section you'll see all manner of healthy debate about a whole range of subjects.

Stick around for longer than 10 days and search you'll find a wide variety of content.

Otherwise.. I'm sure that there are plenty of other forums to whet your appetite for police related matters.

Yes Victor you may well be entitled to express your own opinion.

The romantic vision of the " blue and twos " response really should remain just that for all specials. There is a personal liability attached to you when driving a police vehicle and for basic operational that is almost justifiable. Blues & Twos afraid not - even experienced drivers who do that day in day out come a cropper on a regular basis - often destroying their own and innocent peoples lifes. Realism is a fantastic asset to have and this should always be used to keep Specials activities in perspective.

Now its my turn to express mine.

I agree with Mike where he said that there is no romantic vision of officers on blues 'n' twos response and that doing the job is enough satisfaction for us.

<MODERATED>

I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT TO YOU that police driver training is of a top quality and that I disagree with your point that experience police drivers regularly destroy their own and other people's lives.

Specials get EXACTLY the same licences from EXACTLY the same training on EXACTLY the same vehicles. Most forces will back up appropiately trained specials EXACTLY how they would back up a reg.

The only thing I do agree with you on is that realism is a fantastic asset.

<MODERATED>

Im going to add a post for one reason, this is to discuss about driving in northampton not about arguing over stupid little things because one person has decided to hit some nerves due to that person not seeming to understand that we can not give him the information he wants, he should stop harrasing us and ring up FHQ!
