Test your decision-making in these real-life situations and find out if you have what it takes to become a good police officer.

Real Life Challenges

The Real Life Challenges are scored to give you some indication of how well you have reacted to the different challenges. These scores are just for guidance.

Score: 10-15

You have a got a good understanding of how to react to some of the challenges you will face as a police officer. Your training will teach you more and you will always be able to rely on additional help from your fellow officers.

Next steps: We would suggest you check your eligibility before going on to complete the SSQ and apply online

Score: 5-10

Although you have reacted well to a number of these challenges you will benefit from learning more about being a police officer during your initial training period.

Next steps: We suggest you check the competencies required as a police officer and read some profiles before checking your eligibility and beginning the application process.

Score: under 5

You may find it useful to have a close look at the information on the site to increase your understanding of the police officer role.

Next steps: We suggest you read about the different opportunities available to you within the police service, along with the competencies required to be a police officer.

This must be different from force to force as the last few stages were done completely in a different order.

Yes, some forces move parts around. The fitness test is before Assessment Centre in some forces, for example (Surrey does this).

For Surrey, I did one in August 06 before my assessment in Jan 07 and have another one next week. Start date is end of March 07.

I think Greater Manchester Police also have a more formal interview and medical as the final stage, after the fitness test. I sent my application off last sunday.

Just had a query about Stage six Fitness...from what I've discerned from West Mids website, if you fail your fitness test then thats it you've failed full-stop ( i.e.you have to wait 6 mths before you can re-apply? ) but the information you have provided seems to suggest otherwise. Have i read it right or have I missed something obvious in the wording?

I looked forward to your reply. Thankyou.

Hi all, does anyone know of police policy on former members who have been dismissed (misconduct during probation) reapplying, I have heard of a 5 year wait but cant find any official declaration of this on any list of applicatant requirements.
Thanks

Late response... I believe it may be a case to case thing, if you fail but truely believe you can improve, you can get another chance x3 do corerect me if i am wrong as i also was led to believe (met) you get 3 shots at your fitness.
