I always thought this would never happen to me - it only happens to "careless people"!!!

My warrant card was lost/misplaced/stolen yesterday. The last time I checked it was with me at a busy train station in London - then it vanished after I got out of the station.

I am calling London Transport lost property etc this morning - will let you know how I get on.

Has this happened to anyone? Will my superiors execute me? Discipline? Refuse another card?

Basically, I'm ######ting myself...

If you have genuinely had your pocket picked I can't see how you can be to blame. Can't be expected to have it in an inside zipped pocket at al time can you? I would guess a lecture on being careless but I can't see how they can do a lot more.

A lesson I guess, DO keep it in an inside zipped pocket!

Its happened to a few of my colleagues and nothing bad happened to them. These things happen.

Just take a deep breath as it you was going into the Head Master's office to a couple of proverbial whacks.

You'll just get a rollocking. Nothing more hopefully.

Is my memory correct that MET regulars get 'fined' three days wages for loosing their warrant card?

Don't panic - I had my purse stolen and my warrant card was in there. I explained to my Liasion Officer and everything was sorted out.

It was a genuine mistake, and not carelessness, so I was treated sympathetically!

If your lucky it will be handed into a police station by a responsible citizen. I was lucky. When I moved house, I went to fill up my car with petrol and my warrant card slipped out my pocket (I use the holder as a wallet aswell) onto the petrol station floor. Someone handed it in before I had gone to supervisory to let them know I lost it, so it was almost as if it never happened ;-)

One of my colleagues lost it at Hendon whilst doing the physical for Herts regulars (they contract it out to the MET).

The card was cancelled (i.e. no access to police buildings by swiping it).

It was found in the changing rooms THREE MONTHS LATER. Phew  can't be cleaned that often.

I wouldn't worry too much.

The worst that would happen is a stiff telling off,I'm sure.

It happened to me a few months ago.

I really wouldn't worry about it I'm sure once you explain what's happened you'll get the little talk and a new card (with new photo if your image has changed).

Just get it reported ASAP..... then if it is found and used for anything inappropriate you are not on the line for failing to report.

Then there's the small matter of the all forces telex that will probably appear in the briefing file of every nick in the country

We were told to report it instantly if we lost our cards or if they were stolen. We were told that we wouldn't be executed for it, however if we didn't report it for a few days, then we would be executed as a potential 'thief' could have gained access to various restricted areas in only a few days.

It needs reporting immediately to your supervisor by way of an Official Report / Minute Sheet whatever you call them in your force area.

The card needs cancelling and its access removing for security reasons !

If its not been done, you should do so NOW !

Basically you need to phone your station NOW if you havnt done so and explain it to the duty officer. Dont wait even till your next working get it done at once.

If its been stolen and is used for an offence then your in deep s**t if its not reported lost and in almost as much brown stuff if it turns up on someone who is not supposed to have it.

If your lucky it will turn up at a police station somewhere handed in but there will be repercussions if is is misused and not yet reported.

I lost my first warrant card and radio pass as I keep them together. I panicked but reported it to my Inspector straight away, got my warrant card cancelled and replaced. I thought I was careful before but I'm incredibly careful now.

Speaking of losses, when I was working at Lark In The Park yesterday I took a radio from the pool we have down at the helpdesk, (definitely!) put my radio pass in the allocated slot at the pigeon hole entrance and toddled off to do my duty. On my return my radio pass had vanished!!!! The radio I used was on the bottom shelf so I checked the floor area around the cabinet and all the other radio passes in case it had dropped out and was put back in the wrong place but it was nowhere to be seen. Why anyone would want my radio pass I do not know and the photo of me on it is less than flattering!!!! I think this will remain a mystery unless I have some pyscho stalker

FOUND!

It was handed in at Bow nick.

Thanks for your comments - it was reported immediately, I did tell my station, called TfL Lost Property (spent most of yesterday morning on hold) and called most of the central London nicks to ask if had been handed in.

I have also asked my Sarge when he would like to bite my head off.

God, I feel an idiot.

Panic over!

Glad it's been found and handed in - see, there are still some honest people out there!
