Not sure how to start a Poll so here's a thread instead :-)

Anyone claim mileage expenses etc? The only thing I've ever claimed is boot allowance and I didn't bother with that this year.

I tried to claim travelling expenses while training at Hendon, but was told that as I was training in my own Borough I was not entitled to travelling expenses, so from that I assume that if you live within the borough you work as a special, you cannot claim travelling expenses.

I claimed travelling expenses when training at HQ.
Also claim meal allowance for each shift over 2 hours on duty, plus boot allowance monthly.

Liz,

I do not believe that is correct, you should be able to claim the public transport rate to your station any way, you can normally only include travelling time to from duty if parading away from your home division.
therefore you should be able to claim the public transport rate from Home - Training school, I know in your case it is unlikely to be a lot of money but all the same, its in the book as your entitlement.

John,Rod, Carl can you confirm that I have read it correctly

All at NI claim the travel rate on the expenses, this is taken to be the same each time/every duty........plus boot allowance at the end of the year dependant on hours. I don't think anyone here bothers with mileage.........

Carl

It is a bit bizare the manual allows SC's to claim for mileage, its states you have to be a designated officer, however when it come to the claims for loss of earnings attending court you can claim mileage

Hi Stu
I did at first claim travelling expenses, but got a call from my SDO telling me that as I was training in the same borough as I was working I couldn't claim them.

Liz,

I would definately take that up with your DO, you should be getting travel, after all we don't get it for free and you are travelling to your nick/training from another place which causes you an expense.

I find it worrying that there is such disparity between boroughs

At DM we have a set travel allowance based on the return tube fare to our home (or as far as the M25 for those officers who live outside the Met) and a refreshments allowance based on the number of hours performed. We also claim the boot allowance which is calculated on yearly hours.

During training, the return tube to Hendon was paid, and any additional expenses 'necessarily incurred' are usually reimbursed.

Of course, I concur with Rob - inasmuch as it took me 18 months to actually start receiving them...

'Crapita' strikes again...

I take it I was lucky then with receiving expenses, I put my expense sheet in every month and was paid every month.

Read from that what you will!

I had heard about that a few weeks ago, but I suppose knowing I was only issued with one pair of trousers and no skirt, I wouldn't qualify for it anyway. I was given the choice of either a pair of trousers or a skirt.

Skirt indeed, just imagine trying to chase some little S**T over a fence or wall in a skirt.

You should still be able to claim it. I'm sure you wear them underneath to keep warm in our permanently inclement weather ? I is paltry, something like 20p a duty, but it adds up when you do it for nothing else......

The days of a PS inspecting you on parade to check you wore them are long gone........... (a female one of course...)

Carl

In TVP we are allowed to claim for any mileage we accrue. It is one rate to your station and a much higher rate if you drive from your station to another place such as going to another station whilst on duty.

We are allowed to claim a subsistence allowance for meals whilst on normal duty.

It equates to about £30 a month with petrol mileage to training and duty, your subsistence allowance etc.

I haven’t claimed it up until now but plan on doing so from Jan this year onwards.

 These are liberal times - and the Met is and "equal opportunities employer" (it says so on the website)...

Perhaps I ought to put in a claim for stockings as well?

I'd probably get promoted...

Suspender belts indeed, this is the Met! Besides, they couldn't afford it.

If I'd wanted to join the civil service I would have...
