I thought only DDOS could perform this task?
Not in my borough; police officers can do this task too...

Nope. I used to be trained ... but when I left a borough and the system was still locally administered, my login lapsed as I went to multiple custody suites rather than the same one every time.

Isn't it just "Stick/gently roll the relevant appendage as indicated by the computer screen onto the sensory thing"... it's
idiotpolice proof.
It's not quite idiot proof... The magic "?" to display the latest list of scanned individuals? The necessity of choosing the person entered by the custody sergeant on NSPIS from the list rather than creating a new one? All the magic tick boxes about immigration stuff?

Assuming youNot in my borough; police officers can do this task too...
a) have a log in
and
b) can remember your password and username
and
c) if you can't, are able to find someone to reset it for you.

The hardest part is the rolling of the fingers especially if they are being awkward or they have very faded ridges on their fingers (builders are the worst as their hands are so worn/scarred).

There is no Livescan training. You simply get it and crack on. Usually you log on and someone watches you do it to make sure it is done right. Training complete lol.
I didn't even get that...

yes....but there is some thought as to what the word 'training' constitutes. I'm at Uxbridge tomorrow and will try to put something together ...

When I return to borough I hope to set something up officially for all/most specials to be Livescan trained and helping them through custody.

Same. No DDOs in my part of the world, and the PCSOs give you a strange look when you,ask for a hand......excus the pun.
Which nick you been to? There's DDOs at both and from my experience what they will do for you very much depends on the skipper and how many DDOs are working

Strange to see comments about DDOs not going near livescan. Its the bread and butter of their role pretty much.

Indeed, there's a school of thought to suggest that a prisoner is more likely to be compliant with a civilian jailer than they are with the police officer who's just nicked them, simply by the fact that they're as independent as the custody skipper from the actual investigation. If it's been a confrontational arrest from the get go, it does nobody any favours for that to continue inside the custody environment. Once the prisoner is secured, there's a lot of mileage in maintaining the separation between custody and investigation.

That's just an added bonus, custody staff have always been separate from the investigation as it's a PACE guideline. It's also why arresting officers shouldn't do constant watches.
