Hey Guys,

Passed everything to be a Special in Merseyside Police! Thank God! Such a lengthy process!

Anyway, was just wondering, how far into training/before training/after training? do you get given all your uniform?

I guess its fairly standard so i'd appreciate an answer from someone in any force, but preferably Merseyside Police!

Cheers guys, proud to be one of you!

Ben

Well I'm with Hampshire and I passed my vetting quite a while ago. After I passed Hampshire's gateway and vetting, I was invited to my Foundation training. I was given a number to ring the uniform store, and I now have it next wednesday

With the Met you don't get it until you're nearly finished with your training. Sometimes even later!

I am currently in training for Nottingham and I got mine 2-3 weeks before I started my training, except the important stuff like warrant card,ASP,cuffs, body armour, etc etc which I will get a few weeks before I attest :)

I think the answer to your question is that it is likely to be Force specific. There are apparently Forces that you have to carry out all of your SC training wearing smart civilian clothing throughout. There are Forces where every item of uniform (bar Warrant Card for obvious reasons!) is issued on day one of your course, and there are Forces that seemingly 'drip feed' you kit whilst undergoing training.

At the end of the day, it shoudn't really matter a jot, as long as when you attest, hopefully you will have all of your PPE/kit.

As a MerPol applicant the process for you is quick compared to the rest of the country! The vetting will be around 4 weeks or so on average. New officers currently get basic uniform around the 2/3 weekend of training, body armour is not issued until your attestation. Belt kit is issued just before your PSP training.

Ahh okay, so basic uniform is like high vis jacket and trousers and shirts and hats?
Yeah merseyside police is doing it very quickly! My vetting took a week and I went from application to training (well hopefully as it starts on the 16th august so im hoping my final reference gets written by then!) In just 2 months!

For us in Dyfed-Powys, we don't get the Uniform until everyone in training has had their uniform fitting.

In this instance, we finished everyone's fitting by 6th July, and we get it this coming weekend. Though of course you don't get issued with your personal protective equipment until you've completed Officer Safety training towards the latter end of training, and don't get your warrant card until attestation.

No-one in my group seems to know what happens to the Helmet, whether we get it as part of the wider uniform this coming weekend, or whether its sent to our allocated stations with our body armour.

But yeh, I can only re-iterate what others have said so far. It's very force specific.

We did our uniform fitting before they even finished vetting. One lad ended up being failed 1 week before attestation the poor sod.
