Hi!

I am 18 in September and have wanted to join the police since I can remember. I have done a few work experience placements with GMP within the Trafford Division.
Unfortunately the government went and pi**ed all over my career plans leaving my only option to become a special first!

Hopefully there will be an intake soon after my 18th so I can apply ASAP. Without causing a huge debate, which division would be the best to gain as much experience and knowledge? I know GMP don't really allow specials on Response but is there a division that allows this to happen more often than others. I was originally planning to put down a town close to where I live but working and living in the same division doesn't seem to clever!

I've heard that the specials is a stepping stone to becoming a regular officer. If so, within GMP are specials being recruited as much as being made out and is there a minimum amount of service within the specials that must be done before applying for these small amount of places for regs that I keep hearing about??

Finally, Anything else I should know about being a special in GMP i.e are specials treated well?, are there a lot of opportunities etc

Thanks
Luke :)

Division choice is something pretty personal really, they've all got different advantages and disadvantages. Everyone will tell you their division is the best! Location and convenience is more of a consideration for most people. Policy in GMP is that specials are aligned to NPTs, but there are opportunities to work with response on all divisions.

So far, there's only been one recruitment, and that was from all Specials, PCSOs, and Police Staff. There was no minimum service requirement. I believe the current plan is to recruit another 50 officers next May. After that, who knows..
