I'm sure allot of us are a victim of this but I just seem to receive a stupid amount of calls from people saying I had an accident.

The fact is I did have an accident and the information they have is correct but I wasn't flipping injured and I don't care if "money has been put aside for me" this accident was in 2010 and I have had weekly if not daily calls since.

If its a recognised number in my contact as "spam" i normally don't answer but every now and then they seem to change the number or a new company is "passed my information" I got a new one today I quickly explained I wasnt injured said the words good bye and hung up. I was then left an abusive voicemail from the adviser.

These people just think they are untouchable and it seems they bloody are.

Does anyone have any clue who I complain to about these calls and how I might be able to stop them?

I have spoke to O2 who said I wont get any more calls but I still do. I realise I could change my number but it has taken me 7 years to learn this one so that doesn't seem like an option.

The fact they left an abusive voice mail today just cheeses me off more and I'm glad I can share my experience. But why would they call me back its almost like its a game?!!!

Contact the TPS and get your number added to the do not call list. Also you could threaten them with a harrassment charge if they continue to call you after you have your number added to do not call.

Look up the phone number on the web and go on the offensive, call their head office and hassle them back.

what do you mean by abusive? as in you'd want the caller charged?

Just used an abusive word In the Voicemail. Can't see this as being criminal it's just rediculous that these people are so fearless that they will just get away countless calls and they do.

What was the context of the voicemail? When you said "goodbye" then hung up did they call you back for it to go to voicemail?

No idea I got a a notification a few seconds later saying I had a voicemail as if to say that when I hung up it somehow put him through to vm unless he rang straight back and it just went to vm for some reason

The worst is, as I found out recently, even changing your number doesn't always help as new numbers are recycled ones from old customers.

I took out a new contract, decided I wanted a change of number, within days I was getting calls trying to sell me stuff and all the usual rubbish. I phoned Vodafone to complain and was informed "new" numbers which are given to new customers are just recycled numbers of previous customers, so what you think is a new number is likely to be on loads of these companies databases already.

As suggested, register to TPS, although I have to say, doesn't seem to make much difference as the companies don't seem to be bothered! I have my house phone registered and it's also ex directory, still get calls all the time!

You can speak to / write to / email OFCOM regarding the abusive / offensive communication that you had, they will take it seriously and so will the perpetrator.

That's what I figured. I have registered with TPS but as has been said I doubt that will change the fact that my number is already on their database. Thanks Dave, I have sent Ofcom a complaint through their webform so I will keep a hold of the voicemail for now.

I hate all these pestering calls and junk mail, so I am on TPS and MPS. I got a call yesterday saying that as they weren't trying to sell me anything (cold-calling under the guise of a survey) they didn't have to comply. I asked them for their full details to pass onto OFCOM and they ended the call there and then. I hope word gets out that I am no pushover!

I have done a complaint and sent info over to OFCOM so here's hoping it helps.

Sounds very similar to the calls I am getting. Did you have a hire car through CCL Vehicle rental by any chance?

I was getting them at least 4 times a day until 3 days ago, all abusive and saying I must be stupid if I don't claim the money that is "set aside for me".

I found that if you are abusive back they don't phone you, similarly if you threaten to take them to court for harassment they don't call either.

I was getting these on my force mobile quite regularly (I've never had an accident by the way). I just used to say I wasn't interested and put the phone down but the calls kept coming. Then one day I told them they were calling Surrey Police and magically the calls and text messages stopped and I've not had a single one since. :D

I might try that on my next call and answer it as Kent Police see what happens :p Since posting this topic I haven't had any more calls. I just hope I haven't jinxed myself. I will go and touch some wood just to cover myself.
