The man ran naked in front of the crowd before being arrested

London 2012 torch relay

A man has been arrested after running naked across the front of the torch convoy as it travelling through Henley.
The streaker had "Free Tibet" written on his back and ran a short distance past crowds waiting to see the torch relay beside the River Thames.
Thames Valley Police said: "A 27-year-old man from Henley has been arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency and is in custody."
BBC producer Priya Patel said officers tackled him and covered him up.
Assistant Chief Constable John Campbell, overseeing the Torch Relay policing operation, said: "This was an isolated incident that was quickly dealt with by police officers and thankfully did not disrupt the torch relay as it passed through Henley.
"The torch relay events of yesterday and today have been attended by thousands of people who lined the routes through towns and villages, and seemed to have really enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience, and we have every confidence that this will continue."
The incident took place shortly before five-times gold medal winner Sir Steve Redgrave rowed with the torch on the Thames.
The torch is travelling from Oxford to Reading and there will be 111 torchbearers for day 53 of the relay.

I've personally always wondered about the state of mind of people who do this. Yeah, I suppose to many, streaking can seem like a great laugh, harmless fun and all that. Now I'm not prudish and the sight of naked adults running around because they are seemingly just after some sort of instant fame or instant betting cash from their mates, doesn't interest me one iota. The problem arises when these morons do it in full view of children. I mean, is it right? Should any five year old or 9 or 10 year old who just happens to be standing around when one of these idiots runs past waving their bits everywhere, be subjected to the spectacle?

I found a story of a guy who streaked at a football match in February and he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for two years by a Magistrate for his troubles. Bit harsh some might think. I guess that punishment might well ruin his life. Perhaps he should have thought about the consquences of his actions.

why are we so worried about the form of a naked body? what is it they get "subjected" to? the act isn't sexual in anyway and is completely different to allowing a child access to sexual content.

is it really a sexual offence? or is that just the view of a prudish magistrate bench?

Public nudity isn't against the law as such (there needs to be intent regarding causing alarm or distress)

other acts usually are s5 PoA (naked hiker stephen gough was arrested in england under this law but quickly released on both occasions)

outraging public decency is currently under consultation within the department of justice
