Dear All,

I have been a special for a number of years, fully independant, well trained and willing to volunteer my time.

Having said this I feel that we as specials are being let down by our supervisors and ultimately the regular police force. I have great respect for David Burgess-Joyce, Chris Hurst and Mike Morgan, and this post is certainly not in anyway about these people, infact without these people the special constabulary would be in a worse state.

Recently I have seen good offercers resign from MerpolSC, for no other reason than they are being poorly treated. When I say poorly treated, in fact its an absolute disgrace how human beings treat other human beings. Not only is major bullying taking place within the SC, but also from regular supervisors towards specials.

I am not going to name and shame here, or go into details on a public forum so you can take a sigh of relief, however if you are a serving Merpol SC then you will proably know what I am talking about.

If this thread is totally alien to you, then maybe its just my area that people are resigning and feeling like this. I have seen the duty hours decreasing on dutysheet, I have spoken to other colleagues and eveyone!! seems to be un-happy, demoralised, and low self-worth.

If its different for you I would like to know, becuase it isn't good in my area.

Just a quote: "The only olympics the specials should go to are the Special Olympics" Insp.

The above quote I have not taken out of context, why are we treated as a bunch of in-ept school children, or to quote an inspector why are we treated as 'Special'

Enough is enough and hence the thread.

Angry, annoyed, and undervalued

VM

If your concerned enought to say it on a forum then why not pop it into an e-mail to the Special command team mentioned and have the matter looked into. For the record an open internet forum that possible new recruits can access is not the best place to rant for serving officers.

Thanks for your support Oddone,

I am not just having a rant, as I have not said any specifics. To be honest I am sure our command team and supervisors know exactly whats going on, and if they don't then they will now.

By looking at other SC Forces and understanding what they do (command structure, training, levels, and deployment, equipment usage), then an audit can take place. I'm sure that evaluating duty time and comparing to other forces would be a good indication of satisfaction. Alternativly, a welfare census could also be considered.

At the end of the day, no organsiation is perfect I know this, but doing the right thing is never doing the wrong thing.

Thanks

Folks, can I thank everyone who sent me an inbox with your thoughts and suggestions. I have currently had 12 inbox messages and alot of the stuff thats getting stated I think I will edit and forward on to the bosses.

Its really constructive, and a great help. To behonest I know this is not the nicest of things to discuss but hey as long as we are professional on this forum then nobody can argue.

Sometimes the world isn't all rosie and perfect, and by the reponses I have recieved, this issue has been skating around for a long time, and has just been manifesting and becoming deeper rooted as it has not been dealt with.

One person has mentioned to me that other SC forces recruit 2-3 times a year maybe! While MerpolSC have a year round recruitment, so informing me about the drop out rate being high!

I know Collar numbers have been extended past Zero numbers so that is partly the reason as we can have more SC, but you can't ignore the facts hey folks.

Thanks

VM

Hello, if you have any issues I would appreciate knowing about them please. I am aware of an issue in one particular BCU which I am dealing with, but cannot act if I do not know. Please contact my staff officer Inspector Jessica Maycock with your concerns assuming you have discussed them with your Chief Inspector first.

Thank you

vodka_monday Its really worrying to read that officers are being bullied in Merseyside Police. Hope it works out for you! I know you shouldnt be chased out, but if its not working out I think you should consider what is most important in life and not put up with it.

A forum may not be the best place to look for support though, especially if it is being monitored by the people doing the bullying.
