Evening All

i am an msc oficer at ZD Borough and have got ips
Does anyone know about msc to pc recruitment after the oylimpics?
i.e how many new pc they are taking on and when ?
also anyone have any idea about how many 30years + officers that wil be retiring after the oylimpcs?
( head it is 2000-3000 officers)
and also when you apply to your line managers for the pc role do they take things into account (i .e hours
being a supervisor) etr

Many Thanks

I heard from one of the trainers it was 7000 officers leaving the force but I think thats up til 2015. I heard that there is going to be PC recruitment around October. I also heard that it's going to be open to PCSOs first.

I don't know about anyone else but my opinion is that wild rumours are unhelpful to anybody. Speculation gives people false hope....

The question regarding the next MSC -> SC process was asked in the Commissioner's forum on 27th June. I am reluctant to post any content from the intranet in great detail on here but needless to say the Commissioner said that the next few years are an uncertain time financially and recruitment has not yet been decided on, but that there should be a firm update on the situation by Christmas at the latest.

Your Inspector (regular) signs off your application. Things like being a supervisor or the number of hours do not form any part of the assessment process, as long as you are free from discipline issues, outstanding complaints and do your minimum hours there is no reason for them not to sign off your application.

From the interview he gave the BBC I think it was today there was more talking of cutting numbers than there was of increasing/maintaining them

From my other post, it's almost a couple of thousand a year for a normal year, so if officers have been delaying retirement due to the Olympics it's quite feasible that post Olympics there will be a need to recruit several thousand new officers each year for at least a couple of years to simply maintain numbers.

http://www.policespe...met-statistics/

It's also interesting to note the number of officers in 2009 was 32,543, the number at the end of 2011 was 31,478, so we are already 1065 officers down from the peak figure.

Another point to note that the population of London was estimated to be 7.56 million in 2007 and 7.95 million in 2010. It's estimated to be 9.083 million in 2020 an increase of 14%. You can't have an increasing population of that significance and reduce police numbers, without serious consequences.

Unless MPS police numbers are already inflated today (I don't know whether this is true) then I don't see that police numbers will fall over the coming years, without impacting London and it's citizens significantly.

Sadly Police numbers are not inflated today, things are already very stretched. I completely agree with what you say, a fall in police numbers will impact London significantly.

Think everyone has heard about the possible october recruitment rumour. To be honest they will need to see how many will leave before making a decision about anything. The workforce is definitely going to shrink regardless of what the government are saying. Let us check back in 6 months - 1 years time and see where we are at. My feeling is not so good. !

Everyone heard rumours it will open before the Olympics.. Is it??

Best advise is... nobody will know when it opens, all you can do is get your IPS and wait for the day it opens. The Met has just recruited 1000 officers in the space of a year, I honestly doubt they will recruit more this year.. People have to remember the MET are trying to do more with less...

Doubtful it will open before the Olympics now with a month to go. They have DDO's in training at the moment and PCSO's soon.

A friend who passed his PLC etc was held back on medical grounds as he needed an operation and he was told to keep his October free.

I was told before the Olympics, it's not looking likely now is it? Glad I busted a gut to get 230 hours in and signed off IPS on duff gen.

You got IPS in 230 hours? Think yourself lucky that it is obviously easy to get.

Plus the fact that you'd have to get IPS anyway for anything worthwhile.

Wasn't easy, was very lucky with my SNT with some warrants that yielded a boxes that could be ticked off.

Also they say it should take 240 hours to get IPS while doing CPM.

Again yes I'm IPS but there is jack all open specialist OCU wise that is open now, yes I can ask to do Lv4 driving now...that's about it, I solely busted a gut as we were told recruitment would take place now. Ah well....had a great time getting IPS worked with a great mix of response and SNT all across my BOCU, including Oorahh, wherever he is hiding these days! Lol

I got my book done in 200 hours on safer transport! Not going to hand my book in for a while though as there's no way I'm walking the streets with only 200 hours under my belt

As much as I could debate about the new IPS system day in, day out, it's safe to say most of us will be applying next time around. I've heard rumours as well that October time will be the next recruitment drive, but then again they said that last november.

I guess there's more chance due to more people retiring after the Olympics and the combined winsor reports but who knows?

There are lots of rumours but the rumour mill seems to know more about what the job is doing than the job itself does. Who can say what will happen post Olympics. How many officers are going to retire/leave? No body knows so the job will have to wait and see before that information gets passed down. Realistically I don't think there will be one in October. September is the paralympic games so there is scope that many officers who want to leave will be around until the end of Sept at the earliest. I'd be very surprised if the numbers required, recruitment teams put together and so on would happen within a couple of weeks. December time is more realistic, if the job decides it wants to recruit this year.

I doubt there will be a recruitment drive this financial year, there just isn't the money. There also seems to be this assumption that the day after the olympics end several thousand officers are just going to resign or retire, it's just not going to happen.

With regards to your comment about nobody knowing how many are retiring I would imagine the MPS might have a fairly good idea. Well I would hope so anyway.

How much notice does a PC need to give if they intend to resign? 1 month, 3 months etc? If it is the later and you wanted to totally overload HR or grind your axe one last time wouldn't you coordinate it so the vast majority handed notice in on the same day, thus all having the same exit date.

Well the recent public chat with BHH, I asked about recruitment as numbers still low and he said there is room for another process and Management board have it scheduled to discuss in their Septembers meeting.

So just wait is all we can say and do.

In fairness, if you're aiming to get in as a regular then getting your IPS signed off as soon as possible is better because clearly no one really knows when recruitment is going to open (if it ever opens)
