Just been told by CNC that I have to come down the day before my assessment centre for the CNC in Ryton to do my fitness test and firearms assessment. I was wondering if anyone knew if these tests are conducted within the NPIA building itself or elsewhere? I'm coming over from Belfast and alas don't know Coventry well at all!

Cheers

Thanks. Just wasn't sure if the fitness test was there or in the leisure centre up the road. I just need to know these things so I can plan my itinerary well in advance. What does the firearms part consist of at NPIA Ryton?

It's very tempting to park in the car width bays marked MC - but don't do it, security get a sense of humour failure when you rap your explanation to them....

Haha I'll bear that in mind! Cheers for clearing it up. On the phone the recruitment office said they didn't know where these tests would be held! Had to call them and see if I could get another date as I've already booked my flight. Turns out I can but they have no idea when the next fitness/firearms assessments will be :O so just goin to go for it and pay the extra costs. Anyone know what the firearms assessments consists of?

Starting week 16th July? I'll see you there then ha. It won't be a firearms test, and if it was, I reckon it would be a simulation to see what you act like with a firearm (even though it's plastic ha). That, or it will be psychological exams, dexterity and coordination etc. could really tell you as Im trying to find our too!! I can't imagine they would just give you a gun and say "shoot that target" and mark it out of 10. The majority of people will of never fired a gun before.

Not booked a day yet. Need to get my rota from work first

Ring CNC HR and check again and then ring and check again!! I've just attended the assessment centre at Ryton, beginning of June. I was told F&F same day and was given the choice of which in the morning and which in the afternoon. I chose assessment in the morning and F&F in the afternoon. Then I heard a few people had been told the same and then the F&F was cancelled. I e mailed HR but didn't get a reply. So I went to Ryton not knowing. Others there who were CNC had also had the F&F cancelled, some at the very last minute. I asked the NPIA rep if he knew anything and he said to assume it had been cancelled if there was no-one from CNC there to meet us. He also suggested to go down the road and check at the sports hall too just incase. I did that after my assessment and although they do hold the F&F there it wasn't happening that day. I've been told now that the F&F assessments will be starting the week beginning 9th July. However, the information download I received prior to the assessment says middle to end of July. If you received the same information sheet with all the downloads it says F&F will take place in Culham, CNC HQ, Oxfordshire. Soooooooooo confusing!!
Good luck!

Is urs definitely week beginning 16th? cos they told me that people who are going on that week will be in oxfordshire, but they've paired up with NPIA for the ones at the end of july. they said they send emails out 2 weeks before the assessment date, so we should have all details within 2 weeks!

for Ryton it may be on site or in the sports complex up the road, but they assured me that the venues will be close by. good job as i dont fancy getting taxis everywhere!

However, wether or not there are posts availiable... Who knows. I know a lot have asked for Hunterston, as there was an email in circulation that the next lot of training for primarily for this site.
Let us know if you get an offer and where for. Interesting to know where people are up to. I've had my application in since April last year!

Ohhh so you haven't done your assessment centre yet? That would explain it. I just got my results from it though the door. Think I need to brush up on my written!! Still passed. Chuffed I got all A's in my oral communication! Remember to nail your diversity. One D and you've failed the whole thing, didn't know that!! Best of luck. They were a nice bunch at Ryton. I was in Morrisons cafe for 2 hours preparing, it's only a 10 min drive from the centre. Just good to have somewhere I could relax, study and have a brew before the assessment centre. Recommend!
