I've just seen THE biggest Leeds Rhino fan. He has a club sticker, oval, about 8" tall by 12" wide just below the rear view mirror in the centre of the front windscreen.

This has to be an offence, but what is it?

Tell that to the person they run over while their view is blocked...

Two fairly bushy lengths in an upturned V coming from the rear view mirror area down to the bottom of the window.

sit in the driver's seat, lok out the windscreen and assess how much te sticker actually impinges on the nrmal forward view - then decide on the offence - aim for offence as above. Decide once you have checked, not presume there is an offence beforehand .

I have a question sort of related to the one the OP posted. On my way home from work yesterday I saw an iPad being used as a sat nav. Attached to the window on one of those suction things in the middle of the windscreen.

Surely that is also the same offence as listed above?

It could be like those ones that people have on the rear window. A lot of them look solid but are in fact see through. Sort of like limo window tint. You can't see in, but they can see out.

You could do them for illegal tint. As im pretty much sure anything over 20% on the front windscreen is fine-able.

I thought, and I may be wrong here, that the area the windscreen wipers clears - is the area that needs to be clear from obstruction.

With the above, MOT's go on any chips/cracks etc in that area is what the fail/advisory is done on.

The above is what I was told, opinions?

I would guess the same. Windscreen wiper area is to be clear at all times.

I've worked with VOSA quite alot and they get driver's to remove anything in the area that is cleared by the windscreen wipers., Sat nav's, Stickers, Rubbish etc that would obstruct the driver's view.

That's what I thought when I was told, and it's what I've always gone by.

One could argue that the area beside it, by the A pillar is for view also, but that's all debatable

Yep as above same goes for sun strips in the windscreen wiper arch i would get them to peel the sticker off or they get a ticket up to them

I've had one with tints before. Although I couldn't get traffic out to check them, I didn't really need too! The front windows were limo tint so it was obvious what the tint reading would have been.

I made him peel as much of as possible, which ended up being a line down the middle, and a big rip at the top - there was no way he'd leave it like that so on his way he went with suitable ticket

Under what authority did you use when you ''made'' him peel it off ?

Just out of interest, why get him to rectify AND issue ticket?

That's so he can continue to drive the car safely. Just realised this is in relation to tints. Its not something I have ever dealt with but in my understanding this is to prevent the user leaving the damaged ones on and to encourage them to go and get them changed with road legal tints.

Why not? they have still committed the offence. If an officer wants to use discretion they can. If they don't then that's fine to.
