I was taking a gander through the Staffordshire Police Facebook photo gallery and they have photos of various police raids etc, and who should crop up in Hi Vis but the Chief Constable Mick Cunningham Posted Image

Bottom left!

Now I know you're all thinking there's nothing new here - CCs do it all the time, but this had a difference, there was not ONE reference to him or his rank in the press release attached to the photo - now that is rare!

This isn't a Pete Fahy inspired "quick get the cameras out my laurels are moving more than 5 feet" affair, he's just doing the job he signed up for!

Anybody else seen rank and file officers doing their bit without a press entourage?!

I've seen our old borough commander (chief super) go on foot patrol a few times. Turned a corner and bumped into him, unluckily my colleague was picking his nose at the time, and had a chat.

Although not rank-and-file, our inspector is known for taking out his station van and going to round up arrestees. He's usually on patrol in the van as well.

I'll be honest, the CC wasn't the first thing I spotted...

I'm assuming he's not the one carrying the RPG shaped enforcer.

My CI used to do a foot patrol from the office to tesco (which is half a mile each way) most lunchtimes! He also came out to new years parties and some Saturday nights!

Do you have to salute them when you see them?

We used to have a C/Supt who would take a car out on Friday and Saturday nights and go out and about on patrol and lock people up - always a fun sight to see when turning up with the van!

I used to know an Inspector as well who would take a motorbike out and patrol round unless he was needed in the nick.

Well I'm saving that photo for the next time I get shouted at for not wearing my hat.... If it's good enough for a CC, it's good enough for me.

Not exactly a CC, but I've dealt with a couple of incidents in Westminster with a certian Superintendent. He certainly wasn't playing for the cameras (the weren't any), he was just out and about doing he duty as a constable and just happend across the same crime I did. Top man. I didn't even know Supers had stab vests and PNBs until I met him!
