Got the nod, going to be getting our personal issue PDAs soon at station :clapping:

I'm not massively great with street names, so the SatNav will be ace and not having to update over the radio will be a bonus too...as long as we are in a signal area :new_doh2:

How are we IPS feeling about our new tools and are we getting to grips with them ok? As I know some areas have had them dished out already.

Lol i know the feeling.

You my friend get something much better than a PDA...you get a PDA totting IPS :pc: the gods themselves tremble :p :new_doh2: So no mate, but i hear eventually there will be pool stocks in stations, so will have access to them eventually, much like radios?

Because we already own the PDAs and have done for a long time... They've got rid of lots of officers so have a load spare, I imagine :p

As for them - apparently only 7 people at my nick are getting them the 'select few' - in honesty i'd just be happy to get my personal issue radio - ever get the feeling you just get overlooked for everything?

Not heard anything about getting PDA's at my nick, saying that I got my personal radio last year along with a couple of others who were IPS.

Im happy to stick with updating over the air to be honest, I just make it quick so nobody moans!

As for directions, have you not heard of an A to Z rolled up in your pocket? It's all about making do / less is more as a Staffordshire Special Constable

It would probably serve to give you more insight into the investigative process, using one i think...as your mentor to help with updates and the likes mate, they should let you. Training is easy to get for the relevent systems too.

Gawd Mike!, what is wrong with you? why would they issue something which actually works?! :p

Sort of in answer to Mikes post, however. Due to some PCs (and other officers above that rank) been entitled, but never needing to draw a PDA, the force has always had a stock of these for various reasons. That said however which around 250 retired officers, there are some spare, even with those which would usually be returns damaged or set for spares etc

I'm fairly sure we only have around 10 IPS , so think they are all inline to get one.

Having just missed the chance on a PNC course, due to various reasons, i've had that feelings, the 'i'm not half as involved as i should be', but times comes and my personal situation will chance soonish, so can do more. I've noticed however that some more vocal, the more you get, it is not always a mattter of committment or skill.

Radio up-dates are all well and good, a happy medium is some STORM access though but it's alot of radio time to pass the circs and the updates sometimes.

What you think i've been doing for the last year :new_shhh: and true that my friend.

I'd be interested to hear the hardware and software specs, to satisfy my geekiness, I'm guessing Windows Mobile 2003 or 5 and some clapped out silver beast?

So, anybody got their paws on one yet? We're still waiting at our nick and I put the list in about 3 months ago. I've also heard rumours that the regulars will be having Samsung tablets (which will replace the PDAs) mounted in each patrol car starting at the end of the year.

Not yet mate, I guess they are getting worked on. Anyone else seen them?

I know that the force is issuing mobiles to some, it was on the intranet, didn't hear about the tablets though. Any rollout plans e.g. stations specific or across the board?

Got told by my supervision that the PDA's have been de prioritised as another job has taken priority at tech services. Don't hold your breath

Yep I can confirm that PDAs are on the back burner at the moment - other priorities have come up at Tech Services and there's a lack of resources at the moment :(

Maybe going a bit of the topic.

But these PDA's do they allow you to send your location?

(im doing a final year project on police location services, this would be a great help)

No. That isn't necessary, but it all verges on operational info anyway :)

How Police are tracked, how systems work, all that kind of thing is Operational and not for public domain, and if it IS public domain, then fine, but I'm not being the one to make it so..

Do a Freedom of Information request to Staffs Police, they'll be able to tell you how it's done if they can.

I've had my PDA for a few months now, more of a hindrance than anything else tbh, can only use it for updates and gps, no emails or anything
