Hi Guys,

I've been waiting for my vetting to go through for about 6 weeks now, I know that it does take a long time.

If for any reason I failed it would they ring me and let me know?

I cant think of any reason why I would fail it but I'm getting all worried :-(

thanks.

Hi Parnham91,

I'm in the same situation with vetting going through at the moment. As i understand it, it just is a VERY lengthy process it seems and we're not kept very well informed.

My guess is that yes, they would call you when they have finished looking into it if there are any problems. But i wouldn't worry yet, i think it will just take some time..

Let me know how you get on :)

Which force have you applied to? When's your training start date?

Have you tried calling recruitment to see if they've got any news for you?

I shouldn't fret. It took my Force eight weeks to process my vetting from start to finish and I did 22 years in the Armed Forces. The wheels can sometimes turn very very slowly!

I've had security clearances of one shape or another fhe the last 15+ years. When I joined the Specials 3 years ago vetting took 6 months. Recently I had a clearance submitted via my day job which was higher than needed for the Specials go through and complete in less than a week. Vetting is a long process but it depends on several factors. Your recent tracable past and current workloads/backlogs of the agencies involved are but a few. Remember we also have the olympics looming so I'd expect the vetting agenies to have quite a workload at present.

Hi Parnham,

Vetting can sometimes take quite a while to go through, especially if they are trying to get through a lot of recruits. They will contact you if there is anything wrong with your vetting or if they need any clarification etc. Alternatively, like cupcake said, you can always call the recruitment team and see if they have any news.

Thanks for all of your advice.

It's Humberside I've applied to, I've no idea when the training date is due to begin.

They haven't contacted my employer yet either.

We'll see wont we, it just takes forever!

My vetting took 10 weeks (but with a different force), so don't worry about it, but if you do, ring recruitment every other week or so and enquire :)

Here's something people don't realise with vetting too. If you have a common name that can lengthen the time it takes to vet you.
