Evening all B-)

I am currently in the process of becoming a PCSO with the BTP. However I have question I would like someone to answer for me :raz: . The post I have applied for is in London however I am from Sheffield. I have done some research and found out that I have to have worked for a year in London to ask for a transfer. Is this true ? :D And how easy would it be for me to move from London to Sheffield ?

Its always been a dream of mine since I was 6 to work for police and yes I know didn't have to apply for London job but when when I got the chance of lifetime I was not going to let it go.,. :whistle2: The only reason I want to move back is that I have grown up there and my father Is long term ill  given that I am the eldest i think it would be useful for me to be like 10-20 min drive away.

Thanks for feedback in advance please no "cocky" comments

Oh and sorry about poor spelling/Grammar

You can transfer out of London yes, but beware London is a different division to Sheffield. BTP and their divisions are very much like different HO forces! one division doesnt like letting their staff go elsewhere. Plus if you think you will be able to work for London for 12 months then ship out to country you have another thing coming. There will be a pretty long waiting list for starters, plus your transfer will need ok'ing by your Sgt or even Insp.

Good Luck!

Not necessarily with regards to waiting lists, I don't know that many people wanting to get out of London because the pay if you work in or around London is better. But yeah, the area will have invested in your training and there may even be external interests who have invested money as well (TFL for instance) so transferring might not be that straightforward. It would be higher up than Insp who would need to authorise it as well seeing as it's one area losing a resource and one area gaining an additional one. I had to have two CIs authorise my temporary transfer from L area to WW.

A BTP PCSO in Sheffield would still be working according to the same operating procedures as one in London, just I would imagine the workload/types of stuff dealt with would be different in some cases.

There are no BTP PCSO's based at Sheffield - the only NPT's in the North East work out of York, Leeds and Nottingham.
