Hi everyone

I am aware that the BMI requirements are 18-30 however does this mean i would pass if my bmi was 30.5 or would this be a fail?

Thanks for the help :)

Well if the requirements are up to 30....

Are you particularly muscular? As in a rugby player or weight-lifter? They can do body far tests if so. Of you are just chubby ( I was 30.5 at Christmas) just eat less and exercise more. Simple. (I'm now about 24)

I'm not in TVP, but I believe that more generally BMI's outside this range are considered on a case by case basis during the medical. This is largely because BMI is a fairly poor measure of 'tubbiness' - especially since people with muscular physiques can easily score well over 30 even though their body fat may be actually very low.

That being said, 0.5 isn't very much over the limit so if you're failing because you've over indulged in pies (like me ;)) rather than protein shakes then it shouldn't be hard to shake off relatively quickly.

I passed at 31 last year, no issue whatsoever.

At 30.5 I'd be very surprised if you failed.

Nice work - that's a big drop. I've recently gone down from 27 to just under 25 and I thought that I'd done well, but losing 6.5 is very impressive in just 6 months!

Tvp is strict on bmi. It has to be below 30. It needs to be below that for medical and fitness.

The BMI restriction was what finally gave me the incentive to get off my rear and get down the gym. An hour or two on the cross-trainer, five or six times a week and restricting my calorie intake was enough to take me from 34.6 to 30 in two months.. All this effort losing 30lb and I'm now merely 'overweight'.. Just need to lose another stone and a half to be within the recommended range for my height..

They would fail you at 30.1. Needs to be in the 29 range.

I still have no idea why they use BMI.
It is such an awful measure of a persons fitness/healthiness

How many people roughly take the fitness test at one time and is the beep test usually done inside or outside?

I seem to recall there were around 10 or 12 of us on our fitness test.
The bleep test is outside and the push/pull test is inside.

Depends on Date/Time I guess, I only had 4 people in mine.

I think there are 2 slots available, 08:30 and 10:00 for fitness tests.

Yep :D

Same as Koados we only had 4 people turn up, and one of them was meant to be in the afternoon slot but he was really early.

I had about 11 others on my fitness test. Bleep test is definatly outside. It was rather chilly when I did mine. Not a pleasant experience being in shorts on a frosty morning.

It rained for mine, so everyone stopped as soon as we hit 5.4. Though I didn't get the memo so I kept going to 5.5 :/

I wanted to keep going, I was already soaked, should have made them stand and wait for me.

The beep test is another ridiculous format. In Scottish forces you have to run a mile.

How accurate are the measurements during the medical and fitness? Is the height measurement to the nearest centimetre or how accurate is it? And are you measured and weighed with your shoes on or without them?

Cheers

Shoes were off for me, on both medical and fitness. Not sure about how accurate they are for measurements. You could try measuring yourself and rounding height down and weight up, where appropriate. That will give you a 'worst case' figure.
