It will be interesting to see the public order tactics employed by Polish and Ukranian cops, from what was shown in the Panorama program, it's abit haphazard.
What are your views? Should the tournament be held in counties where these problems exist?
Should nations competing provide support in terms of officers and training for the host nations?

I can't actually believe that Fifa/UEFA have granted the country permission to hold the Euros there!

Moved to Policing Overseas
I would argue that this isnt an overseas policing topic, more a general discussion about how Euro 2012 will turn out. Ho hum.

The Polish Police are making attempts to combat football violence, from what I've seen and heard from speaking to a former Polish cop they are fighting a losing battle as it continues to take more of a hold!

Well, the last time I checked, neither Poland nor the Ukraine was in the UK. And General Discussion isn't for talking about football. So it was either here, or real world.I would argue that this isnt an overseas policing topic, more a general discussion about how Euro 2012 will turn out. Ho hum.
Ho hum indeed.

The hosting nations providing support is a difficult one. While it would be beneficial for both nations and increase the availability of assistance, cross border laws could be different which could cause confusion amongst many. Plus the cost of it needs to be considered as well, not just the financial implications but the manpower cost.

I'm working a public order special event when the football is on.

This is one of the reasons I hate football - what other sport would have fans that are willing to kill their neighbour because they support a different team, the colour of their skin, etc. etc. etc.

Chariot Racing - Nika riots of 532AD
In all seriousness violence is not unique to association football. American Football has seen some pretty nasty clashes between rival fans as have a number of other sports. I remember seeing some Greek basketball fans rioting on the news a couple of years ago for a start.

I'm no expert in the area, but I don't think the Ukranian police are trained to the required level to police such an event safely or effectively. From the interview with a Ukranian Police "Major" or something, they seem like the key stone cops.
The Polish Police do look and act in a far more professional manner when dealing with matches, they separate fans etc etc but it just doesn't seem enough!
