Teenager is ‘critical’ after high school fight with another pupil
A TEENAGER is fighting for his life after collapsing during a fight with a fellow pupil at a high school in Glasgow.
The 14-year-old, a pupil at Rosshall Academy, is said to be in a “critical” condition after being rushed to the Southern General Hospital just before noon today.
Police said they were investigating the incident and what may have caused the boy to collapse suddenly. It is not known if he has any kind of medical condition.
Officers said he had been involved in an “altercation” with another 14-year-old boy inside the school building, near the gymnasium.
Police said the other boy has been arrested over the incident.
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it took an “unconscious” male to the hospital.
His relatives were holding a bedside vigil at the hospital today.
A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “We can confirm that an incident has taken place at the school and that we are liasing with the police.”
The 14-year-old boy is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.
A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

That said, I hope this doesn't set some sort of precedent for Police having to get involved in every school yard ruck... kids scrap in school, it's as important a part of growing up as a cheeky ciggy at morning break and a snog round the bikeshed after lunch.

nationally? probably.
i think it's more the other male being in "critical" condition in hospital.

Its not your usual play ground scrap though is it? He was knocked unconscious, I believe the police needed to step in.

Says he collapsed during an altercation and it wasn't know if he had a medical condition... Could have been a bit of pushing and shoving and the kid suffered a heart attack from an existing condition he wasn't aware of....
That said we could make this into a Police thread by discussing Police involvement at schools; personally I think we get called to way too much, and my Insp has drilled us all on national schools policy to ensure we don't take on crimes and work as a result of playground antics.

The boy is on life support at the hospital, it wasn't a pre-existing condition, during the "altercation" the boy suffered a nasty head injury due to falling to the ground
The story is in the daily record if anyone else wants to post it.
According to the daily record it was over a football, apparently.

Nowhere does it say he was knocked unconscious. It looks like pre-depostion or an undetected illness.

Albeit that charge was before the boy died.

A bloke was arrested at my local Tesco earlier today for stealing a block of cheese. The Police attended and arrested him. It was in the local paper and the Police were involved, should it go in the News section?
The News section is really for stories that directly affect the Police or Policing, stories such as this belong in the real world.

not quite the same as a story which is front page news in the scottish national newspapers though is it cheetah? (and that was before the boy died, it will be front page in all of them (in scotland at least, tomorrow)
given the description of the real world is "serious discussion of non-police/crime topics", and this is a crime topic...
it certainly doens't fit there, it does fit in "Stories in the news relating to UK crime" though.

more info in the newspapers today, apparently he kicked a football, it accidentally hit the other pupil in the face, the other pupil then took exception to this and started to "beat him around the head"
