Recently spoke to a Dorset Officer who was wearing a Hi Viz Police Bomber Jacket whilst on a day out in sunny Dorset.

The officer told me that he had to buy his own Hi Viz. Police Bomber Jacket as the force don't issue these ?

How many of you have had to buy your own Police Jackets ?

What uniform items do Dorset Police issue ?

Sounds like the cut backs are bad when you have to buy your own florrie jacket.

Not too sure buying your own clothing would go down too well...HQ would argue that if it isn't force issue, it's not needed.

I was issued this style jacket and the blokes in the stores said you shouldn't/ can't buy your own kit (obviously excluding 'after-market' Gucci belt kit etc.)

This is for HantsPol however...

Don't they always clam that, it's more about defending if it should hit the press officers are buying their own kit. MOD spring to mind, and the army kit, lad buying there own kit.

When I worked for The AA, they supplied a tool kit, and said the same this is all you need, there was their world and the real world.

I think you'll find there isn't too much of a problem with squaddies etc buying their own kit. PPE, for both MOD and the Police, of course has to be issued. But things like bought kit, clothing, boots etc are all acceptable as long as they do the job and are suitable. It is common to see non issue smocks, webbing, backpacks, boots, survival kit etc amongst infantry troops.

...it is also easier to get Military kit, with a kit stall at every Saturday market around the country!

Police kit is hard to get, due to the nature of the job and laws against impersonating an officer.

All the kit we ever need is issued to us by the force. Dorset police do not issue bomber style hi-viz jackets, they issue the standard waterproof hi viz coat.
That said, I had 3 hi-viz cyle shirts turn up in my tray last week for some unknown reason...

Stores, gotta love 'em... we've been waiting for kit for ages, and you get stuff sent without even requesting it! ;)

I'm guessing they're cycle shirts, bright yellow T-shirts!
They look nice and I can see myself wearing them down the beach (on duty of course) if ever Central needed a hand, but haven't got a clue why they were sent to me or what I'm supposed to do with them??

The bomber jackets have been issued in the past as I have one as they were a small batch bought in by stores issued to regs...therefore if you have you own and it looks like the jobs...pas problem as the french would say but why spend money buying that type of kit anyway.
