I'm going to be finishing training as of early July.

Seeing as I would like to get on borough to start getting some experience and shifts under my belt asap, before any recruitment opens. I am conscious that I don't really want to be caught in limbo for a month or so between attestation and induction. As some people on this site have experienced.

Can anyone suggest the best way about tackling this? I had a brief conversation with HR but they were unable to shed any significant light on the matter.

At what point in the training process are our borough choices actually set in stone? Would it be best to send out some emails/make some calls to a few boroughs to see when induction days usually take place?

TIA as always!

After Day 2 you finally confirm your borough. As soon as you start training, you'll be allocated your borough and if there is a problem. You will be told before you start first day of training.

The thing that you will have to remember, is that you will be finishing just as the Olympics is starting to ramp up, and to be eligible to do any AID, you will need to be Level 3 Public Order trained.

If your on the intensive course, and you want to get straight out there as such, once you start training i would say that your BOCU will be fairly set in stone, as they will probably need to start the ball rolling around then getting all the relevant bits for you sorted on the OCU.

You also need to remember that for the period of the olympics the duties and shifts being worked are a bit different, so whatever OCU you are going to you will need to ensure that there is someone who can work with you when you want to go in!

It seems I'm joining at rather a busy time!

I'll just ask lots of questions when I'm training so I know where I stand with making sure I can get some shifts upon my attestation.

Cheers for the replies chaps!

I really hope this met vest issue is resolved by July!

Is it wrong that getting the uniform is one of the thing's I'm really looking forward to?

I felt other then the speed of the training the biggest let down for me was getting our uniform on the second to last day of my course, while overall I had a cracking bunch on my course it ramped up a little when we wore uniform for the first time.

We were told last week we would not be getting our uniform until our last day (26th May - weekend course) . Given what I have read on the forum, I am expecting some of it to be missing.

FYI, I had to wait nearly 4 weeks from attestation to induction because induction days on borough were once a month and I finished my training on the day of the March induction session. As I hadn't attested, I couldn't go to the induction session. Hopefully you won't have wait as long.

Yes it will always depend on what Borough resources they have at the time. We used to run three induction days for new officers which were admin, hands on training with trainers and a live ticket issue. However due to limited resources and time we have had to compress this into one day.

I guess it also depends on the size of your OCU.
I think mine has inductions quite often.

Whave been training since February and have been on Saturday and Sunday training for a number of weekends to get us trained and attested by the Olympics - we attest on July 14 - but if the above is true, we have no public order training, no chance of a borough induction (although some of the training group have been on inductions at thier boroughs) then we may as well sit back and wait until September before we have any possibility of getting out on the streets is that fair to say?

Depends entirely on your OCU and how they manage the MSC. I think technically, if they want to, they could squeeze some inductions in.
You don't need level 3 public order to do normal shifts, just olympic aid!
Inductions during training don't really count because you need a different one once you're attested, in uniform. Issued CS, radio, PNB etc.

Have a chat with your MSC manager and have a look to see if you can get onto a level3 course if you're that keen for aid.
Not sure if there are any running, but i managed to wriggle my way onto one while i was still in training. :whistle2:

You still coming KF? If so we will be able to do your induction. I arrive back in the UK on the 14th from three weeks in Turkey but we will be running a group induction so you will be fine to get out on normal shifts.

I tried to get on a L3 course while training mate but went round in circles - my MSC manager and Special Sergeant (who are both great - not crawling Ben honest) were happy for us to do the course if our training sergeant could arrange it. Unfortunatly training sergeant was unable to help!
I'm sure it will all work out, any way I probably wont have a uniform till September any way :new_no:

Aha, be proactive!
Book it yourself, if you have access to aware.
Then all that has to happen is your line manager will need to approve it. If there are anymore, have a look on MetHR and book away!
I hear your trouble with the uniform though! :(

I have approved him to go on the course, however the remit is with the Training Sergeant due to the SC Student status. If training staff are being unhelpful email me and I'll chase it up and as I said initially I'm more than happy for you to book on the course as long as in the notes section you make it clear you are pre-attestion and currently a SC student.

I am starting my intensive training from Monday, and put KF as my first priority on my documents. Would I defiantly get place in KF as I live and work in the Borough also. How quickly is it to get induction in KF after attestation.

Welcome :). PM me your dets and I can confirm if we know about you tomorrow. We always offer an induction within weeks of passing out depending on your availability. However as I have said, your intake are the last (attentions in July) to arrive so we will be putting in a plan to get you all inducted before games as all the managers and special supervisors will be swamped when the games is live. At the moment we are inducting apprpx 22-24 officers a week due to KF being given a total of 230 officers target at end of July.

Has anyone got any contact details for any of the Greenwich MSC staff? I'm on the May intensive and I am hoping to get squared away with starting on borough as soon as i've finished training. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I contacted my BOCU after my kee2 and had a chat with MSC manager in the station. Then she called me to induction if I wanted to it before attestation.I had my induction and locker that day.Only things they weren't able give it to me was my asp and cs.Also I wanted the list of Mandatory NCALT modules.I finished all NCALT modules before attestation. The next day after attestation I was doing my first shift. That was my experience. One thing I learned If you don't ask you won't get any answer or help mate.Good luck

Gents, if you use google, put in the borough and special constabulary it will bring up pages of contact details found on the MPS website.
