Just out of interest, has anyone been contacted recently asking if they'd consider a posting to London? I didn't put the capital as an option when I did the AC, but it may well explain why I don't have a position with them now.

They contacted me about a week ago and offered me a post in London even though I'd withdrawn my application a while back, they must be struggling to fill the vacancies they have!

They offered London Underground at West Ham, Finsbury Park, Central London Police Station, Hammersmith or Wembley Park.

My original application was for the North East.

I was sent an email a few weeks back stating that my AC dates were due to expire and that they did not anticipate being able to offer me the North East as I originally wanted. They did say that if I was prepared to consider London that they would submit me for medical and vetting. They haven't as yet sent any conditional offer. Is that what you had Prae, a formal offer so to speak?

They said if I wanted a place in London they would re-vet me and get me on the next intake starting 2nd July.

Obviously because I wasn't interested it never progressed to a formal offer.

Fodfather, I never mentioned it. I just said no thanks.

Fair play to you Prae for sticking to your guns on this. It's appalling really that they would contact someone who has withdrawn their application some time ago when other willing candidates are good to go!!

They want to re do the vetting and medical but personally I'm worried about the timescales involved!! There's a lot to do with no guarantee my employer will let me go with only a month of notice, if I indeed get that much notice from BTP. I want to do it but the signs aren't good! I will just have to take every stage as it comes mate.

Just be aware that they won't pay for your digs during training because you will be within commuting distance of your posted station so you'd need to relocate before July, just to add to the stress of it all!

Keep us posted mate. :pc:

Cheers guys, the lack of accommodation does add to the stress quite considerably and I'm guessing it will be a Gumtree houseshare for a while! If it weren't for the London Weighting allowance etc the move may have been impractical..... married man, kids and mortgage in the north east of England. Does anyone know what sort of shift pattern LUL officers work to, or does it vary across the system?

It varies depending on what team you are attached to, and where you are based.

Good morning all,

I applied for a position in the Northwestern decision in September last year and was successful. However, due to operational requirements, there was no position in my preferred area. Subsequently, I have been offered 3 conditional positions, (subject to successful vetting and medical) all in Central London, (I think from memory located at, 'core unit one', Waterloo). I received the same email that is spoken of in this feed, basically there is not, and will not be any recruitment, especially for external applicants in my area before my AC results expire.

I was wondering if any one was in a similar position, or has knowledge of shift patterns, benefits, the possibility of free rail travel, London weighting or any other relevant snippets of knowledge (especially in finance) that can assist in my search for answers?

When I initially spoke to recruitment, they said that they would 'put me up' in new recruit diggs for a maximum of 2 weeks if I accepted the posting in London. Does anyone know if I can extend this if I pay towards it?

I have a family in Preston, and am really struggling with the idea of leaving them for most of the week, does anybody else have a flat share type set up, where they will reside in London for the shifts, and then take the trip home for days off? How do you find this arrangement?

Thanks in advance!

* apologies for the autocorrect at the beginning of my last post, it was meant to say 'division'... :whistle2:

If it doesn't feel right then I'd say wait - I'm an inpatient old so and so and want to get in ASAP but if the posting isn't right - logistically and emotionally - then its only going to end one way isn't it?

There's 2 intakes this year I am led to believe - July and September - so ask to be deferred if at all possible so you can get a posting closer to home!

Movings a huge thing, especially for a new job with intensive training!

Good luck and see you on the other side!

Hello,

Thanks for that. I have been assured there is no positions in my area before my AC results expire, so if in any case there is a position later in the year, it would probably still be in London. If I defer (again) I risk loosing the place all together don't you think? I have spoken today to someone, who was most helpful, he said that time off is in blocks and usually 3 days at a time. This bodes well with me!

Can you offer any further information?

Thanks so much for the reply!
:new_thanks:

Potential,

I'm in exactly the same boat as you - only I applied to serve in the North East and Wales and Western areas with specific station choices at that! My position is that I want to join BTP full stop. The London posting is not ideal, as I live well over 200 miles from the capital, but a bit of short term pain for long term gain is what's needed to secure a career that I want. I know that after two years I can apply to transfer to another geographic area of BTP which will mean me returning to my marital home and my children every day. I'm fortunate in that I know London very well and that I also have a background working on LUL in a technical grade position so I'm not daunted one bit at moving. Taking in to account the feelings and emotions of your children whilst you're away all week is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Is it true that BTP Police Officers serving in London get free tube and bus travel also? With the 70 mile rail concession, I assume that is for the purposes of travelling to and from home/duty and not for use if you fancied a day out in Brighton, for example?

Yes and yes.

Roger that!! Another thing, I'm a bit of a gym fanatic. Are there any official BTP fitness facilities in London that one can take advantage of?

Not that I'm aware of unfortunately. Some gyms may offer discounts to emergency services members but I don't know of a BTP-sanctioned one.

@herrcomm thanks for the info, I had seen the info on the link-when I spoke to recruitment, they did not quote those figures, hopefully it will be the figures on the link you signposted!

@Shinnyboots, where do you plan to stay when you get there? I believe we get 2 weeks accommodation at the training centre, but after that, we are on our own! Are you looking for accommodation now? flat/house share type arrangement? Are you doing this now, or when you get there? Also, do you know if there is a possibility to pay 'rent' and extend stay in diggs at the training centre?
