Boots

I have recently got into the Specials in Nottingham (Central Division), and have been thinking about boots. I know we get a boot allowance, but I already own a good quality pair, almost brand new and wondered what type of boot we have to have? Is there a specific type or is it left up to us?
Also, how much is the boot allowance??
Cheers!

When I spoke to Sue you are only entitled to boot allowance if you do x amount of hours a year and we missed this financial year so cant claim.

There are no real guidence around what boots to buy and if you have a new set that are good and sturdy then they will do the job. If you ask around you will find everyone has different brands etc.

Boot allowance is around £60-80 (I can never remember).
Hi-tech magnum classics are around £50 and mine have lasted almost four years of abuse.

The deadline is April 5th each year. Bare in mind, I have to input 200+ duty hours a month onto the system, if you suddenly discover you need to submit 12 months of hours at the start of April you are either going to miss out or receive a payment later in the year.
It is also an Operational Order (i.e. Mandatory) to submit duty hours by the 5th of the following month. Failure to do so is in breach of your terms and conditions and affects the amount of money the force receives for training and equipping specials.

I dont want to get ahead of my self, but will be looking to get some boots, does anyone know any shops in the midlands that would sell suitable boots? I want to avoid getting them over the internet as they might not fit etc etc and be nice to try on a few different kinds. Ideally something like the patrolstore.co.uk.

As long as the boots are black, sturdy and you find them comfortable then I would say they will do.
If you are unsure people can wear black shoes while in training so just do that and ask someone at the training school.

Do not get steel toe caps!!! You can not have a boot with steel caps.Do Notts Police allow Steel Toe boots or do they require none steel toe?. I'm starting Specials training in September (depending on final vetting stage, touch wood) and i was just looking on Ebay at some Magnums.

Just to back up what SPC Matthew has said, you cannot get steel toe cap or composite toe cap boots either. The reason being as it was put to me was if you are taking someone down to the ground and accidently kick them in the shin or other body part and break/fracture something then there will be loads of questions etc etc.

Thanks for the final word on it. I thought it would probably be none steel toe due to the health and safety issue, but i saw a cheap pair of steels on ebay so thought i would ask.
Cheers

Yes you can have steelies though lots of officers still think you cant. Its PPE at the end of the day and its easy to justify the protection of yourself and you feet in the environment you work in, some people would like to imagine we're given foam batons.
I dont have steelies myself as the force was hoo-ha'ing whether or not we could have them when I bought mine, 2 weeks later I got an email saying it was fine. I'd prefer kevlar toes anyway as less clunky than metal ones.
