Hello all,

Pleased to say I am finally starting training in June starting the weekend of the 9th and going over the 6 weeks. I am getting my uniform on May 29th and attending a session at Ponteland HQ on June 6th. Anyone else going to be here on those dates? Look forward to meeting some new faces. Anyone know the course of action the training will take?

Thanks

Good luck with your training and well done for getting through it all. I am just in the process of filling in my application now.
Any major advice?

5 weekends, Sat and Sun, I would imagine. That's the format at the moment I think. Should be a good laugh and you'll make some great friends, Ponteland is a pain in the cheeks to get to and back if you don't drive!

We're changing to hiviz body armour ATM, so kit wise I'm not sure what you will get!

any idea what it will be? for example BTP's looks pretty bulky, but WMP's isnt so bad (even if i really don't like the Hi-Vis culture the world is in)

Hi,

I'm on the same intake and cannot wait, already have my kit, have a temporary black version of body armour but was measured up for the a new version which is due to arrive in six to eight weeks, not sure what it is or what it will look like though.

Not entirely sure of the format for the training weekends but I am sure we will find out on the intro evening on the 6th.

Its pretty minging, I saw someone swanning around in a set at my nick and its horrible, looked tatty and dirty and I cant imagine it was that old. I will be wearing my fleece over the top of it, if I wear it at all!!

Therefore defeating the whole point of having a stab vest let alone the fact it is hi-viz. maybe put a request in for Superdry or G Star Raw to produce the batches for specials just to ensure that we fit in with the youth of today!!

Whether this comment is said in jest or with full intention of carrying it through it appears that fingers were firmly engaged before any other function!!!

Well said Pav :) I can't understand why people think its a fashion parade when going into work - whether it be police or normal work. Will specials get this new body armour?

Speaking on issue of health and safety - how many are doing self defence through the week?

Everyone, including CIOs (not sure about DOs) are getting the new armour. Its counter productive to issue bright yellow vests, it just makes it harder for us to nosey around in the dark. For me personally the hi viz only comes out when it absolutely has to, I can count on my fingers the number of times Ive worn my jackets.

With regards to the fashion comments, looking smart is good, black armour is good, tatty yellow armour is bad. We have a wonderful thing called free will, unless specifically ordered to do one or the other, I can decide if I want to wear armour or not, however I will be much less inclined to wear something that makes me stick out like a sore thumb!

I dont wear Superdry or Gstar, just so you know :raz:

I would have said that a police uniform does enough to make you stick out like a sore thumb! Not sure if you noticed but our police cars also have a blue light and battenburgs just to make sure nobody can see us!

Despite your cocky believe you can wear your best when you see fit and free will i disagree. Tell that to the family and colleagues of sgt bill forth after he was stabbed to death attending a youth disorder job and consequent fight to ensure people don't suffer the same fate

Also force policy states full ppe to be worn at all times including hi viz jacket when on foot. Maybe just another seat warmer in our midst?

This sound like another Northumbria balls up.
I think the hi biz is the way forward saves taking an extra jacket out in the warmer weather.
As we are there to be seen hi viz is good, its not like we are the servailance team is it!!!
Just wonder when it gets rolled out.

So far only have the info from Jeebs so nothing specific about details as not heard anything on email. I agree makes us easier to see, and since high profile is necessary saves wearing more than one piec of kit

Thanks for the seat warmer comment, very much appreciated.........completely necessary to insult me because I don't like hi viz armour, well done. But we'll agree to disagree, eh?

There is a new style HiViz body armour coming within the next few months, have you not had an email asking you to either attend a measuring up within your A/C or at Pelaw? I've even seen a few cops with the new armour knocking about, thought they were metro unit, but they weren't.

Current uniform does allow a certain level of sneaky beaky burglar hunting, the hiviz stuff wont.

Completely necessary in the sense that you want to be a renegade and do "what you like", maybe you dont understand the consequences of not wearing it. the point is irrelevant to the colour of the stab vest instead your stance on its use (or not) maybe you dont hold yourself in high enough regard to protect your own life!

Pavarotti it's not for you to be telling others whether they should be wearing body armour or not (especially in the tone that you did). The force can order it's officers too should they wish, but if your force doesn't have such a policy then it's entirely a matter for Jeebs and not you.

Norpolcc CS runs out on 25th may, and can't wait for certain people to read emails next week, may be sacked by 9:30 Monday if they start at 9.
From the SPOC no current self defence = no duties.

Ahh HQ won't be providing any additional weekends because they are full?

I work away mon-fri and have no annual leave left and they will not cover loss of earnings of I go through the week. Bring on the Olympics, can you do any duties= no as the force can not provide me with suitable training and am not allowed out with out the correct PPE

And before anyone starts the force has provided 3 1 day self defence sessions with 20 per group with around 250 specials to train most of who work Monday to Friday 9-5 a little short fall.

I'm an adult, I'm capable of making my own descisions, yes 9/10 when I'm out and about I wear my armour, but I can chose not to if I wish. I cant stand hi viz kit, so I will most likely cover it with my fleece, on a day shift, I might chose not to wear it.

Last summer, I did a set of day shifts when we had those stupidly hot days, I wore my armour maybe 50% of the time. On a night shift or late shift, I wear it unless I know I'm not going to need it (cordon, cell watch, sitting with a numpty at A&E for example), risk assess and make your own choice.

well look at this thread taken off - Jeebs I take it your a special with Northumbria police? if so then you are not taken note of force policy, yes free will and all that you don't wear your stab vest and assess the situation as and when it negates, however force policy states YOU MUST wear your body at all times when on duty. I believe the reason for this is because any situation can change and this has been proven so many times with reg cops.

Corerct me if I'm wrong but the quote from Pav regarding seat warmer did come from someone within the SMT at the command block. Some old SC's may confirm that.

Sorry to but in - Ive seen lots of officers in Newcastle city centre wearing just their wicking tops - no armour or even a fleece.

I take it that's not allowed?

I fail to see how wearing or not wearing my armour effects how good of an officer I am.

It may well be policy, clearly nobody told the legions of cops who don't wear theirs all the time. Lighten up, at the end of the day its down to the individual!

As your not following policies and procedures then no your not a good officer - would you do the same in putting a file to cps? would you fail to follow the policies then, or when need be and your on camera and don't follow procedures in self defence?

I see your signature states "24/7 Response Officer" - if you are a regular officer then you don't understand the fight we as SC's had to go through to get body armour in Norpol, may be then you'd understand why certain people on here go on and on about such matters which seem trivial to you. If you are an SC then I think you need to take note of these posts, it's people who have the "I will do what I want attitude" that spoils it for the lot of us - not just in regards to the body armour issue but all other things in general.

I have just seen a PC in Newcastle directing traffic in his black wicking top, combats - no belt, no radio, no hat and no hi vis.

I think Northumbria's uniform police is either not enforced or there isn't one?

or he could have been off duty or heading into work - especially if he had no belt or radio on.
