Each to their own :(

Timings wise I really appreciate how speedy it is. But I can't say I will ever enjoy the tube - mainly caused by the attidues of people on it, rather than how it is run!

on a site note, have to say how much it makes me laugh in the morning watching people who can hear the tube pulling in run down the escalator and pile in to the most crowded carriage, desperate to get on that one. Where I get on the tube, by the time you walk to the end of the platform the next one will be there!!

For quality of life- Edinburgh, for beauty- Prague, for safety- Stockholm, for history, culture, politics, celebrity, literature, and finance- London.

I have lived in london for some 10 years and have to say I dont think it's the best city in the world. Out of places I have lived and spent a lot of time I would say Hong Kong is top on my list.

Not one to blow our/someone-else's/my trumpet but isnt it almost undisputed that London has the best Police Force *cough* Service *cough* .

I find speaking to alot of people from different countries that although the Met has some of its short-falls, brought to light recently with the August riots and recent bad press (although lets be honest, there are other Police forces abroad who dont even hide negative things equality related, like racial profiling etc); overall, the Met are considered if not the best, just behind the gun-totting NYPD (that being all officers armed with at-least a side-arm/pistol, but arming all officers is another argument for another day).

Just another thing to add to London's belt

I hope im not skating on the ice by saying this :raz:

Cardiff is awesome!!! I would so go back to live there if I got the chance - only moved out because there weren't the right jobs there for me.

The comparisons with smaller, friendlier cities in the UK are interesting but useless. You have to compare London with other cities of 5-8+ million: New York, Tokyo, LA, Chicago, Paris.

They are all great cities and I would be happy to spend time in all of them. But for me London has something a little bit "more" to it. Where but London can you find pubs on major central streets that haven't changed since Dickens described them? Where but London can you literally see the history of the last 1000+ years every time you look at something?

Sure London can sometimes feel a bit creaky or overwhelmed by its size but I reckon it still holds its own with the top of the top cities.

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than the feeling I get as the M40 starts and the big smoke disappears behind me... People have no patience, drivers are discourteous, its dirty and crowded. However the police are excellent ;)

Tokyo would have to be my favourite big city.

Edit for spellings

the question is only 'best city in the world' - the best city doesn't necessarily have to be one of the biggest :)

The bus network in London is amazing when you think about it. I've recently moved to St Albans up in Herts and I really miss it!
